Should the history channel apologize for perpetuating hogwash?

The History Channel has hours upon hours of programs dedicated to "proving" that 12/21/2012 is Doomsday. In these programs they used misleading data, "experts" with no real credentials and little or no opposing views from anyone.

I'm not trying to excuse anyone for not fact-checking but it's plainly obvious that these programs have created a lot of turmoil in people's lives. What if people die over believing in this hoax? I'm sure there will be at least a few stories of people who have committed suicide, killed others, committed crimes, spent all their retirement money and such. These people should still be responsible for themselves but do you think the History Channel should at least have to have disclaimers or have some damn integrity? And perhaps apologize?

I think the History Channel should be more responsible in the future and not present information as they did with this topic. They have NO integrity! I think they should apologize, and I also think they had better shape up with their programming or else. Even the idiots won't trust History Channel now so they HAVE to!

What do you think?

They should apologize. 0
They should apologize AND work on their programming. 26
They should be taken off the air! 7
They owe no apology, but should shape up from now on! 11
The owe nothing. 16

Only if Discovery apologizes for that crap mermaid 'documentary' and TLC apologizes for their current glorified sideshow lineup, and MTV apologizes for no longer airing music videos, and History apologizes also for filling their airwaves with crap shows and not you know, history.

They should stop referring to themselves as a documentary channel and start referring to themselves as entertainment only, because that's why they are.

you do know that that is how most networks operate. All the reality TV shows, from real world, bachelor, Operation Repo, Moonshiners, Real Housewives, Storage Wars, to ALL Paranormal shows and "Bigfoot chasing" type shows. ( you think a ghost made that noise? no, an unpaid intern just hit the wall with a pipe.)

Its just a ratings play. People that are fascinated by death find the mega-death of doomsday irresistible.

These shows are just for entertainment. If you actually believed that the world was going to end because of some crappy History Channel documentary, I feel sorry for you.

I don't understand their position. Even if they were convinced that the world was going to end, why risk credibility on a bet that only has losing outcomes? And who is going to be watching the History Channel anyway if all earth's history is about to be erased?

Are you from TLC Network [and are] butt hurt [jealous, hurting, suffering, etc] because The History Channel stole your ratings[Source?]? How can you be so sure it's a hoax[the world has failed to end so far today]? Are you god [choose God or 'a god']? Maybe if you wouldn't have close-mindedly assumed it's fake and researched (or heaven forbid, watch the godforsaken programs [I don't think programs are generally considered godforsaken, while the definition of godforsaken makes its use valid, it is not a common usage of the word, and would sound odd in conversation]), then you would understand why it's significant and educational [it really isn't] and less harmful to people that other tawdry programming [I'd have chosen trashy, but no argument with that point].
