Should tampons hurt?

i'm 18 and a virgin (that might make a difference i dunno lol)

when i insert a tampon i get to a point where it hurts to push any further. i think it might be something to do with my hymen but i'm not sure.

it doesnt hurt when it's in although i can feel it, well it might just be the string i can feel.

anyway is this normal? what can i do to stop it hurting and make it more comfortable?

hope this makes some sense lol
thanks :)

Some women say it hurts to put them in. Why other use pads.

For the few times I've used tampons (slim ones), they hurt when I first started to put them in, and I would also get scared to push anymore. I'd say this is normal. Just be sure to keep your muscles relaxed and take it slow.

Sometimes they can hurt if you don't put them in right or all the way. Virginity might have something to do with it, but maybe you should also stick with the slimmer brands. Instead of buying super or super plus, go with regular (and change more often) or "slim." Also you could be shaped differently inside, so try putting it in at a different angle. If this doesn't work, and it still hurts, you might want to see a doctor... or, if all else fails, and as annoying and bulky as they are, go back to pads. Good luck! :)
