Should monarchy be abolished?

Countries like Spain and England still have monarchy however the monarchy in England doesn't have any real power so much as influence over the people.

There are some that would believe there is no need to abolish it and some who believe it should be removed immediately.

There is the point that monarchy preserves a nations cultural heritage. However the monarchy is England particularly has become more of a joke in the masses of the media.

In addition to that monarchies are undemocratic. If the monarchy was to retain any significant political power then it shouldn't be because someone was lucky enough to be born into it.

In the past monarchies served their purpose to let the people know who has power over whom. The Kings and Queens ruled the lands but in modern age there is no need for them.

Where would you stand on the matter?

I think it should be brought back. I doubt it would be much worse than our "democracy".

Oh yeah. We could have an aristocracy instead of the plutocracy that rules us currently.

Monarchs are a waste of tax money. They make good national mascots for the paparazzi. The exception being Kate Middleton, who is truly smart, classy and keeps her husband on his toes.

    I don't think it's a necessity.

If these monarchs want to pretend to have absolute authority over their respective countries, then so be it.

I've seen this argument a lot over the last 40 years. Many of the countries I've visited were British Commonwealth countries and the Queen, Phil and and/or Charlie would often visit where we were. I've been lees than 10 feet from the queen on several occasions.
I love the pomp and circumstance of the royal visits. It's just such a special and unique thing, and I've never met an islander that didn't appreciate the day off and the parade, when royalty was in town. Secretly, even the Aussies and Kiwis enjoyed the visits, back then.
Of course, I'm not a POME, so I don't have to pay for it, but if the money didn't go there, it would probably go to building more aircraft carriers for airplanes the UK doesn't have or expects to get.
