What I mean is locking stories after a certain time frame without any new posts, preventing anyone from posting in them. It's just annoying when you see a story has a new post, and it turns out it's from a year ago and someone just necro bumped it back to the recently commented section.

Who cares how old the story is? If someone wants to give an opinion on something it doesn't even matter if the OP is still around. It still has value for anyone who wishes to discuss it.
It would be so cool if this story was still going in 10 years' time lolz
I disagree. It's nice to see peoples views and comment on old stories. Regardless, of how old the stories are, they are still apart of the history of this site:) If you comment on a story you'll probably still help the OP out by stating your opinion.
Does anyone even use the "Recent Comments" section?
More to the point, there would be no point in having that section if the stories and polls were the same as the ones on the "Newest" pages. The page would be redundant then, surely?
I think old posts should be locked. There's no need to bump them back up since the OP prob won't even come back to read/reply to comments. Well that's what I think since a lot of posters who were hear over a year ago haven't posted here in a long time.
I don't particularly care either way. And I never comment/commented on stories that are over a month old anyways.
