Should i take the deal for housing even if he won't like it?

I found a great deal for free rent in exchange for some weekend work at a barn. Seems perfect - 3 bedroom house, allows pets, and only one utility to pay and maybe 20 hours of work a month. The problem is, it lengthens my boyfriend's almost hour-long commute by about 10 minutes, which is probably a deal breaker in his mind.... he probably wouldn't want to even bother looking. But I think this would be a great opportunity to get out of my parent's house! Should I get it all straightened out before discussing it with him, or talk about it now?

Wait, get all the details first 7

You'd better do some serious checking into this so-called "deal." When something sounds too good to be true, it always is. Before you accept, you need to find out exactly what that 20 hours of work will include and you'd better examine the house very carefully. No one allows someone to live in a 3-bedroom house rent-free in exchange for 20 hours of "normal" work.

  • Tell him. You shouldn't be making the choices for both of you.
Also, do you know what type of work needs done on a barn? He'll probably be doing the majority of it, which wouldn't be fair.
Get all the details and talk to him.

    • Yes I actually kind of grew up around them, and my plan thus far has been for myself to do most of the work - its mostly general maintenance and cleaning/feeding animals, less heavy duty jobs that require lots of strength. I would be able to manage the work even if he didn't come. Plus he has college to worry about, and right now I am the only income.

So you say get the details I have now and talk to him? Or finish gathering the basic details and then bring it up?
