Should i go to this modeling agency interview?

A lot of reviews are saying it's a scam but others are saying it's not, I know the whole scam with modeling agencies is that they make you pay to get your pictures done with them. And that if they ask for money then it's a scam... but it's also said that you need to get professional pics done in order to be a model, which obviously costs a lot of money, so what's really the difference? If I'm gonna need professional pics anyway then why is it so bad, if the price is the same, plus they claim to get work for you?

I mean, even if it does turn out to be BS do you think i might as well just sit thru the interview anyway, just to see what it's like? or should I just not show up? I hate to be rude even if it is a scam, and I can't just call back and say oh never mind i found out it's a scam. so is it okay if I just go to the interview, but very skeptically?

you could go and see if it is a scam or not. or to do it for fun.
but if they asked me for money id laugh as i walked out.
if there are a lot of people saying its a scam then i would believe those reviews.

    • Yeah I was thinking something like that.. Maybe I could pull up the bad reviews while I'm there and ask them what that's about

Have you Googled the agency? If it is a scam they certainly have burned other people. You can go to the interview but don't sign anything without having someone (like a lawyer not your best friend) look over the documents. The same goes for paying for anything up front. Don't do it until you have fully checked their credentials. After all you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. The difference between this place and a professional photographer is that with the photographer, the photos are yours and you can do anything you want with them or give them to a number of agencies. If this agency takes the photos, they are theirs and you can't pass them out like you want to.

    • Yeah I googled it, the thing is they have an 'A' with the better business beaureau, if that means anything. Lots of negative reviews though. But I wonder if those reviews are just from people who were unlucky and didn't get any work through the agency, or if it's something completely different ..

Even if the price is the same, the quality is likely to differ between a conman and a professional photographer. If a conman can produce professional quality photographs of you, why would he even be a conman in the first place?

    • Good point. Doesn't seem like a complete scam though, maybe the people who wrote bad reviews just didn't fit anywhere despite the agency's attempts? Idk what I should do about the appointment

Did it not occur to you that the "good reviews" could be written by the people operating the agency?

        • It did .. how did they get good rating on the BBB site though? Or is BBB not that reliable?

I am very sure it's going to be a rip off yet I still want to go to the interview just to see .. My question was more about that, whether I should just go, cancel it, or just not show up?

You can have your photos taken somewhere else and then bring a portfolio with you. That way you avoid the potential scam by giving them money and aren't on the hook for anything.

Also photos done by a reputable place would probably be better quality anyway, and you'll have them to use in the future too.
