Should i give up on a relationship with my best friend?

ive know him for nine years. We met in grade 5, I've liked him since grade 6. I told him in grade 8. We didn't talk face to face for almost two years. I moved and started to think I was getting over him. I'm back in my hometown now where he is. We talk online alot, but I still have feelings for him. It's been almost 8 years since I fell for him the first time. My question is this, should I move on and try my best to fix the friendship that has been impacted by my feelings? Or should I just spend more time with him to try and see if he'd be interested in a relationship as more than friends now?

Univeral rule of thumb... DON'T DATE FRIENDS. Horrible decision.

Send him a valentines card ...when it is not Valentines day. Had a similar thing when l was younger and only found out recently that he thought I was not interested. Wasted a lot of time where we could have been having better fun.

Have you told him at all again since grade 8? I think if not you should go for it one more time. It's said the best relationships are those formed with your best friend.

  • It's not unlikely that he feels the same way. You should definitely give it a go if you do like him.

You guys obviously get along well (i get that from the number of years you've been friends). But, if you told him forever ago that you liked him and he has shown no signs of interest, don't spoil a great friendship. There's no way he's forgotten about that. If he wanted you, he would have tried a relationship or started hinting later on that he likes you too. Maybe he loves you as a person and as a sister but doesn't really want you as a girlfriend for fear of complicating things and losing you altogether. There are plenty of fish so don't fry the ones closest to you.
