Should i get dreads?

i'm a teenage girl. I have golden brown hair and green eyes. I'm very artsy and I've been interested in dreads since FOREVER! i think it'll be a good way to express myself in a somewhat unique way, plus i've always wanted them! I have had one before and it was amazing! i took it out easily after 4 months! should i dread my whole head? when i get sick of it i will remove them (its possible! as i removed my single one) and get a shortish hair cut which i'm also interested in! please lemme know what you guys think, whether it'd look good or not ! thank yaaa!!!

I've had dreads for going on 5 years now. I'm a white girl, brown hair, green eyes as well.I get compliments on them all the time, but here are some things i think you should know.

I will have to shave my head when I want them gone, after 5 years brushing them out is not an option.

Say goodbye to swimming frequently. I used to love to swim, but now my dreads get soooo heavy and take sooo long to dry, they will mildew if you get them wet a lot.

Finding a job is hard. Hope you live in a liberal city, because you will be judged.

Finally I would say if your gunna go for it, go natural. Dont put anything in them like wax and such, it just attracts dirt and nastiness. Just continue to wash your hair a couple times a week and stop brushing it. Let them form the way they want to. I think people who section off their hair and make perfect locks are WEAKSAUCE.

I am still on the fence regarding dreads. In the long run It's only up to you. You are going to have to deal with the stares, and such. I personally love the look of dreads but, people are very stereotypical. It will suck having to shave your head when you are finished with your dreads and only washing your hair once in awhile is NASTY! It's up to you!

Be yourself do what YOU want not what other people tell you to do or what they think is pretty or ugly.

  • I personally don't like the style on people with lighter skin, but if you're tanned, it might look okay. In the end, do what you want.

like everyone said, if you really want them you should get them (with proper consideration of the pros and cons obviously). imo though, i think they look good on a very limited amount of people and if your hair is naturally straight they look even... odder? and, though there's no way i could really tell, to me the way they look just always seems 'dirty'. don't think it's your only option, there are tons of other ways to express how artsy you are XD.

Go for it. What 'real' said was great. I've had dreads for 9 years now. (I have green eyes too) and the locks are bleach blonde. They are in the process of passing my ass and I love them more and more the longer they get. I get compliments almost everyday, but there's also the dirty looks and stupid questions. Like can u wash that?? Duh. It is a commitment, but well worth it. Make sure you separate them at the roots as they grow. You don't want to end up with just a few big ones!

Other: if you want to get them then do it.

I would recommend having them done professionally however, so that you can ensure that they look the way you want.

One time I was convinced I wanted dreads and I totally regretted it after a few days. Make sure you really want to do it.

  • I believe the correct term is, "Locks", not "Dreads".

They look silly on white people. Looks like they're desperate to be unique.

If you're white dreads only really work if you have thick, curly hair otherwise it just looks bad, IMO.

Dreadlocks on guys are major, major turn-offs (in my opinion). But I can't speak of whether or not it's attractive on a girl, because I'm a girl, but I just think they're not that pretty. I mean, they're called DREADlocks for a reason, they look dreadful. But hey, someone's shit is another man's treasure.
