Should i feel guilty

if i found an ipod and handed it in, but it was never claimed after 3 mths and the person i handed it in to was using it for personal use and left it laying around in a public gym and i have picked it up again (it has destinct engraving)should i hand it in again or keep it knowing its not going back to its rightful owner anyway

    Hand it into the police. That is what you are meant to do, at least in the UK. If nobody claims it in a certain amount of time, you'll be given it back.

    You could probably report the trustee to the police for theft if you could prove they were using it for personal use.

    I would personally hold onto it and take a picture of it/ post the photo around saying "lost i pod" and only give it to whoever can recite the engraving, except for the first person from the gym who had it.

    This is just an idea, you can hand it in to the police too

      My thoughts exactly. It's not like it's a couple grand or a baby.

      The unfortunate reality is that the good deed that people strive so hard to do hardly ever goes to the rightful person. Doesn't mean we should stop doing good things, just that we shouldn't put so much stock in it over trivial things like a musical device.

    I recommend you put an add in the newspaper or something similar to that.
    Or i would recommend texting one of the numbers that may be saved on the phone, something that seems harmless enough, like someone named "Mom" or "Dad" or someone else in the "Family" section.
    Since it had an engraving on it, perhaps the person who TRULY owned it in the first place would have to provide something unique about the phone, maybe a file or a picture on it - would be ideal.
    Then you know that That Truly is the owner and the right thing to do would be to return it to him / her.

    Keep it. Like "-Jay =)" said, its going to a more caring person. which kind of undoes all the bad karma, and the fact you handed it in once already.

    Depends on your moral values, Honestly Im proud of you giving it in but for that douch to take it and use it for personal use? Wow, but nows its back in your hands because of his careless behaviour and like we've just witnessed three months ago.

    I'd say keep it. At least the person who found it *YOU* Showed respect, Caringness, and did whats right. and he shit on that. The past owner would rather have you own it then the trainer. Cause the past owner would know ITS GOING TO A GOOD CARING PERSON.

    I'd keep it and keep an eye/ear out for the owner. Such a distinct engraving and you have no idea who it belongs to?
