    Whether you want to sample or whether you want to date him, you should talk to you friend first.

    If you want a relationship with him, then if & when things go wrong, you cannot use your friend as a go between. This is called triangulation and puts your friend in a very uncomfortable position.

    She probably knows something about how he treats women and she might say no because she doesn't want you to get used. And she might not respect you, if you became one of his lame-ass girl friends.

    If he is a number of years younger than you, don't be surprised if she says no. Sisters are very protective and you are not entitled to a sensible explanation.
