Should i break up with my girlfriend?

About a year ago, I met a girl in my orchestra class. She was awesome and we had lots of fun together. I was 17 and a senior and she was 16 and a sophomore, with a 1.5 year age difference. A few months later, We ended up dating Spontaneously after we fell asleep in my car and ended up kissing. She’s just my type, I took her to prom, and we never had a single problem with one another. 6 months in, I’m in college as an 18 year old, and she’s a 16 year old junior, about to turn 17. The day before she turned 17, she told me she lied to me about her age. She originally told me she was held back in 1st grade, and that why she was old for her grade. Ends up not being true and she was 15 and I 17 when we started dating. There was 3 month period where I was kissing her as a 15 year old when I was 18. I also live in California, which is super stringent on pedophilia laws. She would never out me, but things are really weird ever since she announced the lie 5 days ago. What’s the move?

Don't break up with her. You actually haven't done anything illegal according to California law, anyway.

This means that a defendant is not guilty under PC 288 if:

The minor is 14 or 15 and less than ten years younger than the defendant, or
The minor is older than 15.

    6. Is it legal for an adult to date a minor in California?

While in general, it is legal for an adult to date a minor, it is typically unwise for this to happen.

And, it is illegal for an adult to date a minor if the adult:

    has a criminal record,
    is a sex offender, or
is a teacher or in a similar position of trust or authority.

Please also note that, based on California law, it is illegal for an adult to do any of the following with a minor he is dating:

    have sex,
purchase for or share alcohol or cigarettes,
bring the minor to an R-rated movie, and
    show any pornography.

I would say break up because that dishonesty could've gotten you serious jail time and a lifetime on the sex offenders registry. Nobody is worth that.

Man that's tricky. If you trust her just move forward. But it's a risk because she could step on your throat if you step out of line. I personally wouldn't risk it.
