Should i ask for a higher salary? teacher

Hi, I am working as a teaching assistant at a private school and I am looking to be promoted next year. I have been told the salary range for new teachers is 21-24,000. It is a private school. To give you an idea of the cost of living in my area, I pay $200 a month in groceries, $500 in rent, and the salary scale at a public school would be $38,000 in my first year. I am a state certified teacher in special ed with an ESOL endorsement. I also have 16K in student loans. What salary should I ask for? And, I do not want to go to a public school because of all the ridiculous testing and extra paperwork required.

    get some experience under yr belt then ask for a raise

      I think that is what I am going to do for a year or so.

    So because you have to pay for stuff and you are in debt, you deserve more money? Prove yourself first.

      It's not because of that. It's because I have certain skills and a professional license. I have trained for a specific occupation and was wanting to know what others thought of the salary range compared to my experience and education.
