Should i ask for a higher salary? teacher

Hi, I am working as a teaching assistant at a private school and I am looking to be promoted next year. I have been told the salary range for new teachers is 21-24,000. It is a private school. To give you an idea of the cost of living in my area, I pay $200 a month in groceries, $500 in rent, and the salary scale at a public school would be $38,000 in my first year. I am a state certified teacher in special ed with an ESOL endorsement. I also have 16K in student loans. What salary should I ask for? And, I do not want to go to a public school because of all the ridiculous testing and extra paperwork required.

So because you have to pay for stuff and you are in debt, you deserve more money? Prove yourself first.

    • It's not because of that. It's because I have certain skills and a professional license. I have trained for a specific occupation and was wanting to know what others thought of the salary range compared to my experience and education.
