Should i applie us citizen or should i keep my greencard?

I arrived US at July,2010. I recived a IR2 greencard. I am 17 this year. As the five year perioc come close it become a really annoying problem that I should aplie citizen or keep my greencard. This might sound just immgration stuff but it acturrly closely linked with my future. Now I have no idea which side I will live in. Personlly I don't think there is a big different between greendcard or US citizen, at least for me. In fact if I get US citizen then I need visa for going back to china.

My dad have same idea with me, if I become a citizen it is hard to go back to China, and he don't see too much benfit here either.

My mom on the other side, strongly suggest I aplie citizen as so as posible. Her point is that with a greendcard many things can go wrong, if my greencard later on get cancled for some reason (which is very unlikely)then it is BAD BAD SUPER BAD. Plus there is a two year limit for staying outside state.

Become a US citizen means it will be very hard for me to find a job in China, also travel back to China and living there will be more complecated.

Keep a green card allow me this freedom to go back to my home contry freely withine the two year limit.
But,Under what kind of condition my green card will cancled? I know if you break law, or not return in two year can cause they cancle the greencard, but I want to more specific, anyone know about this?

Accroding to this traditonal idea,if you loyalty to US then go ahead aplie citizen. But I was here when I was thirteen, as many immgration child, I don't know which side to put my loyalty. If a conflic started between China and US, i really don't know which side to support.Based on this I shoun't aplie citizen.

With my parent have a totally different idea I have dilema this for whole last year.I find my self in a position that I can't decide.

Please leave your comment.

I'm planning on moving to another country myself.

If I were you, I'd apply for citizenship. The U.S. will allow you to maintain dual citizenship...basically, you can become a citizen here and still be a citizen in another country. I'm not sure if China will allow you to do this, but it's worth a look.

There's benefits to citizenship, in terms of security and rights as a citizen, but it probably means that you'll have to file income taxes here. I'd recommend talking to an immigration lawyer to discuss your options.

In point of fact you may only have dual nationality in the US if the other country has no military (except Israel) which leaves out China, for sure.

I've never heard that before and I know a few people who have dual nationality's including the US.

It has to do with they loyalty oath. Obviously you cannot swear loyalty to two separate countries, if there was ever the possibility of hostilities between them.
At least it was so some years back.
