Here in UK 99.9% of schools have a uniform which the pupils are required to wear. When I was a girl all girls in my school were required to wear a school skirt, we were not allowed to wear trousers. This was the same in most schools. In the past few decades girls have been given the option to wear a skirt or trousers to comply with equality laws.

Now that we live in a society where gender identity is an option should schools return to insisting on skirts as uniform and making boys wear them as well.

This smells like fetishist talk. One school though all the boys willingly wore skirts. It was the hot season and shorts were banned so they donned the schools skirts. No sorry thats wrong they wore kilts. Is that how its spelt? Well they basically wore skirts

  It’s not a fetish, I’m just interested in peoples views on this considering how society has changed in recent decades.
  
  I sometimes wonder if the male population really do believe in equality or if they simply go along with it in principle but deep down still believe men are superior to women. One way to reinforce the idea from a young age, that they are not superior, would be to make them wear skirts when growing up. But insisting on skirts as part of the school uniform, wouldn’t necessarily be necessary for girls as we are already quite open to the idea of choosing to wear a skirt and frequently do so.

    I think you've got it backwards. A lot of the arguments for women not wearing pants that I've seen actually believe women to have higher standards than males. Essentially, the argument is that men are more easily sexually tempted than women, so women should dress more modestly than men.

      Women donned in Hijab Modest Islamic Clothing still get sexually harassed, and raped (in some cases,) in eastern countries.
      
      Nuns alike, for some reason remain targets for predators in and outside of their communities.
      
      The point I'm trying to make is that it's not entirely about the women's dress code, but rather what pops up in an individual man's mind upon beholding anyone of the opposite sex in a presumed sexual context, regardless of the dress code.
      
      As an example that involves the 'paying for sex' sentiment, a man who has spent a considerable amount of years organizing strippers events may not be easily be tempted with sex from such strippers for financial favors as easily as a seminary runaway student would.

        Not sure how you work that out. I am female and when I go out in a short skirt with heels, I show far more flesh and can be much more provocative,than when I go out in a pair of trousers

I think what we've run into in western society is things have gotten so easy to the point where we dont have to worry about dying at work or starving or even hunting and getting our own food. So we have to find shit to complain about that is so silly it just makes me wish they made everyone go through some type of hardship in their lives to live in a 1st world country. I think the military is great for these types of people who want to change everything and reinvent the wheel so to speak. As soon as someone complains about pants they should be automatically drafted. Forced to kill their own food, and made to do some type of hard labor. If they complain about pants at that point they must run 5 miles. Still complain? No food for the day.

Yes, short skirt and commando let them hang free then discipline any female caught looking or acting suspicious along those lines.
People always feel they're at a disadvantage or mistreated without thinking of the opposite side.
OP even mentioned how much more provocative a skirt is and how they would roll the waist to make them shorter. We sure hated wearing them, we even slapped on heels to show off the legs. Then we have the nerve to bitch about somebody looking, especially if it's not a guy we wanted to look.
I'm an exhibitionist, I like my skirts and the power we have with them.
I'm not sure I want to see ugly guys legs in skirts, hey let's make them shave them too.

if a man wants to wear girl's clothing so be it, i'll respect them. however, i refuse to treat assholes like human beings, so if you need cpr and don't at least respect trans or lgbt people, don't expect cpr from me. that's how i see it anyways lol
besides, all i'm really asking, is not for you to don all rainbow, clothing and pride flag, i'm asking you to basically at the very least respect me and not deadname me or misgender me, like, that's it, and if you can't even do that, then don't even try to talk to me, just walk away. In my opinion, honestly, fuck the gender norms, people can wear whatever they want

it should be a personal choice! after all for many many years women have been allowed to choose which they wanted skirts or pants so why not everyone

I think everyone should be allowed to wear whatever uniform type they choose, be it shorts, skirts, trousers, whatever. As long as it's following school rules, who cares? I've got bigger problems in my life than caring about what other people wear.

  That would be carnage for the poor parents, as a mum of 3 bundling them all into school uniforms in the morning was the only easy part. I can't imagine what American "moms" have to go through when their child insists that they can't wear something because "I wore it last week!"

      Why not there's no girls or boys anymore. They're all just its. What ever they feeeel like and if they can share bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams. Then screw it there is no more sex or gender identifying issues.

No forcing of anything. Wear what you want. That being said. Its not so easy for boys to “just wear skirts” as the stigma is so culturally engrained that they inevitably will get bullied for doing so.
