Should auto "thumb up" be removed?

I have noticed everytime you comment, your comment gets a "thumb up", which is quite stupid, since you just made your comment and nobody has seen it, so how can it get a thumb up... i think it should be disabled. And also disable that you can "thumb up" your own coments. What do you think? Should it be fixed/changed?

Yes, its retarded, since no one has seen my post. 46

You can't thumb up your own comments. Although admittedly, the interface makes it look like you can. Also, I think the idea of starting on one thumb up is pretty logical because it implies one person agrees with your comment. One person does. It's you.

But then if one person thumbs it down, it looks like no one agrees.

Good point, but it's kind of inevitable when you've only got one figure which is the balance of thumbs up and thumbs down. I don't know whether TheManagement would consider it but displaying both figures (the number of thumbs up and number of thumbs down) would show that at least people agree and disagree. The higher both numbers, the more contentious an issue is. Things could still be sorted according to the "balance" of these figures, as they are now.

Why are "no" and "don't care" in the same option? So if I don't care, I also don't want it to be removed? But then I actually would care.

By voting "no" you're saying that it shouldn't be changed. If you voted "don't care" you don't really want it to be changed either. The poll is sort of like a petition.

It's not starting off at one thumb up, it's basically saying, "would you like to add one thumb up to this post". That's how I've always taken it anyway..

No because you hit the thumb up button the count says 2... so that would mean like when you post you had 1 thumb up and then you can add another thumb up to it.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • You get 1 thumb the instant you post. We all start off the same.

Such is the way of it.

In response to your question about Tinkers, that is a saying my Uncle taught me when I was a kid as a polite form of the other version using God's name in front of it.

    • I love when I get thumbs up, that makes me feel that I am not the only one that likes what I say. I also like when somebody makes a really funny joke so that I could thumb it up! NO THUMBS UP FOR YOU! jk
