who cares?
i mean what are you going to do... set up the Christmas Police to ban them from enjoying the holidays?
Amusing. Like the people who demand people to stop saying "Merry Christmas" and change it to "Happy Holidays"
Or the people who demand the words "Under God" be taken out of the U.S. pledge of allegiance. Those people have had at least some success with that nonsense.
It's CHRIST-mas for a reason. If people who don't believe in the lord and savior Jesus Christ want to celebrate at the same time as the CHRISTians do, in honor of our lord, that's their business.
But it certainly wreaks of hypocrisy, that's undeniable. I don't see why they haven't created their own date of celebration for "I'm cool, and hip, and believe in nothing, but giving gifts is fun, but we're all gonna die and not remember any of this shit."
I'm an atheist and I'll grasp any excuse to get presents and have extra nice food:)
Couldn't care less about Jesus. Apparently he wasn't even born then either.
I'm not Jewish, so I don't go through the traditional way of celebrating Hanukkah. There are no menorahs, or eight days of gift giving, no dreidel spinning, no lighting the hanukkiyah, or anything else related to Jewish holiday customs. For me, it only makes sense that I follow the traditional customs of the things that I believe in. Other people, that's their own choice. Since Christmas has been warped by the media and diluted to nothing but presents and major sales, the meaning of the holiday isn't as strong as it once was. But traditionally, Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It doesn't matter that the dates don't match up; it's just the celebration of his birth and the time that people choose to celebrate it. If people who do not believe in him choose to celebrate his birth, then that's their own choice. But it’s ironic for the ones who are so against Christ, yet celebrate Christmas.
It is a traditional holiday that pre-dates Christianity. I celebrate it as a traditional festival of fun and prezzies, but not literally as a "mass for Christ".
I do because like they say it isnt even about religion for many people, especially for kids. its a good opportunity to meet up with family members, take pictures, look back at memories
Anyway, i find the Jesus story to be an overall good theme for ppl. He sounds like a pretty cool guy:)
Why the hell not? People celebrate everything else. Halloween was pagan but oh well now everyone does it! I really don't think anyone cares.
However if someone tells you Merry Christmas and you don't celebrate it you don't have to be a dick about it. Just tell them "Happy Hanukkah" or whatever the hell else you celebrate and have a nice day.
In some countries they bow in others they shake hands. People have other cultures besides your own and you should try and understand that instead of being a self absorbed prick who is like "HOW DARE YOU! HOW DARE YOU WISH ME A MERRY CHRISTMAS! YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER! YOU SHOULD KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HOLIDAYS I CELEBRATE EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE JUST RANDOM CASHIER HANDING ME MY GROCERIES!" So don't be such a Scrooge.
I'm an atheist and I love the Christmas celebration. I enjoy the family gatherings, decorations, music, food, and general good spirit. I have a tree in my living room and put out a stocking. I don't have the nailed God displayed anywhere though.
They can celebrate, but they shouldn't take advantage of days off or other benefits. Can't have it both ways.
Christmas is an everyone holiday. You can choose to celebrate it, or not celebrate it but if your not Christian I dont think anyone will think you are strange for it. Even Japan celebrates Christmas and so do many other countries in the world which you would not expect. Christmas is about love, family, being together and loving one another and peace on earth! Dont feel bad! Athiests can celebrate too. No one is going to think you odd for doing so since Christmas is for everyone, and no one will question it.
Christmas, for most Americans today, is not about celebrating the birth of christ, but a time for the family to get together, taking a few days a year to be kinder to others and taking a break from the dog eat dog life most live the rest of the year.
That it should be that way all year goes without saying, but even atheists can embrace those ideals without compromising their beliefs.
As an atheist, you don't celebrate events for god.you do them for your friends and family. what an atheist can't love?
WHo gives a fuck what religion or non religion celebrates christmas. Its all about giving and the children
Some Christians don't celebrate Christmas because they believe it is a Pagan holiday. So to each his own.
I don't think it's a matter of ''should,'' it's a matter of ''wanting to or not wanting to.''
I mean, if they don't believe, they don't believe. And if they don't want to celebrate it, then no big deal. But if they do, that's okay too.
Other: Only if they want to
I'm Buddhist and I celebrate Christmas but not for Jesus, I celebrate for family & friends ^_^
Why not give a different name like Gift Giving Day or something like that?why keep calling it Christmas if thats not really what your celebrating?
I'm a Christian and I celebrate it for its true meaning to me: Jesus. But I encourage anyone to celebrate Christmas. Just because they celebrate it for a different reason than me doesn't mean they shouldn't celebrate it. :)
You can celebrate; Judeo-Christian fashion, Pagan Fashion. or just Celebrate Christmas as a Holiday that ends the year.
