Shoudl i keep or change my name?

"Zabriskie Ross Hyman II"

My dad named me after my grandmother or some shit.

I like that he wanted to keep the name of our family alive.. it's just that Zabriskie isn't cutting it for me. People mistaken if for "Zancrispy" (what do I look like? A cracker company?) and everyone pronounces it wrong.

Zabriskie doesn't sound like a boy name, right?
I was going to change my name to Kevin, I want something that sounds like a regular Canadian/ american name, not a rare voodoo or forest jungle clan name.
But then there's that side of me that's says if I do than I'm conforming to the mainstream ways, Zabriskie itself is really creative and sounds like an awesome warrior name or something. It something rare. I'm just so confused.
is Zabriskie something you would consider normal?

It's not a normal name but I think it's pretty masculine. It's sounds like the name of a badass Russian circus performer/ escape artist (sorry...) but if you want to change your name go for it! It's your identity after all and wanting to fit in with the rest of Canadian/ American culture is normal too.

  • I like your name. You could just go by Zab. That's easy to remember.

I would expect Zabriskie to be a surname, but I have only heard of the name as part of David Zabriskie.

Don't you just use Ross in daily life?

I've urged lots of people to call me Ross but no one really does.
After many years of calling me Zabriskie I guess it sticks.

Lots of people go by their middle name. Why not start calling yourself Ross if you don't like Zabriskie?

Well, personally I like your name, it is a conversation starter from the get go.

But if you feel you need to change your name, it is your choice. But maybe you want to retain your first name, maybe have it as a middle name is a suggestion.

I like your name! I wouldn't change it, it's part of who you are and makes you unique.

'Zabriskie' is quite cool because it is unusual and distinctive. I was given a 'normal' mainstream name which I hated and subsequently changed it to a name that is not common to my native culture.

change that name!!! its the 21st century
if you like kevin, then just start using kevin and see how you feel about it. if you dont like it try something different. if that doesnt work just stay with your "warrior" name
