Short term memory loss

on jan 6,2002 i had major surgery that should have taken 2-2.5 hours, instead i was in the O.R. for 3.5 hours, for  several months i had trouble remembering things and for at least a month i had trouble putting my words together. months after the surgery i was referring to having short-term memory loss. the surgeon told me the day after surgery that i gave them quite a scare but refused to elaborate. my B.P. went down to 80/40 thats really low.I recently heard of a lady who suffered a stroke during surgery and now suffers from short-term memory loss. could this have happened to me?

Ask the dr for your chart and get a 2nd it's against the law for dr not to tell you what happened or to be able to get your chart

There are several things that could be contributing to your condition. Without knowing what kind of surgery you had it is difficult to make an educated guess as to what is going on.

Your blood pressure, 80/40, while low is not SO low as to likely to, on it's own, cause short-term memory loss.

Go to your primary care physician and inform them of your concerns. If they do not take you seriously, go to someone else. Ultimately, you will need to see a neurologist to get your memory tested in a controlled environment. Based on these tests, they will be able to proceed.

    Good luck!

As your memory is so poor you've properly forgotten that goldfish have particularly poor memories.

healing, you need to understand how things work around here; LOL. Deft's comments were meant for dot. Deft's character is that of a long-deceased serial killer; hence he is acting in character. There's a lot of that going on in here. Not a lot of "real" people in here at all! If you're looking for serious advice, once again -- this is generally not the place to get it. I've seen posts from people talking about considering suicide, for example. I would then follow these posts later by reading the first two or three responses -- they would invariably say something along the lines of "please go for it now and decrease the surplus population."

Anyhow, you get the point. This is a place for shits and giggles for the most part, as the Brits might say. Come here for fun and abandon, and you might enjoy it. Come here for serious debate, and you're on your own :-)

Since you've officially entered the brain-dead zone here, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any informative responses to your question. I'd definitely post this one at a medical site or take this up with a doctor who specializes in post-surgical trauma. If you had a significant loss of oxygen supply to your brain during surgery, your concerns may be valid. But again, this is hardly the place to get your answers.
