Short intense exercise vs slow long distance exercise

I've been trying to loose weight recently so as well as a diet I've been going on 5 mile daily walks, for the first week it was fine but I'm getting sick of it now it's far too time consuming so the past few days I've been doing something quicker but I'm not sure if it's as good a workout for weight loss.

About 20 mins from my house there's a steep and long hill/formation that is a few miles long, it takes about two mins to get to the top and it's a steep angle, by the time I get to the top I feel on the verge of pain and it takes a while for my heartbeat to get back to normal so for the last few days I've been going up and down it about 3 Times then going for a walk.

What would be a better way to loose weight the 5 mile walk or the shorter but intense workout of the hill?

the walk 5
the steep hill 11

The most effective way to lose weight is to implement a good regimen and steady changes in your diet, strength training and cardio are very important. Strength training and weights are not solely for building muscle and mass; strength training replaces fat with lean muscle, boosting testosterone levels and speeds up your metabolism, you will burn more calories and your body will develop muscle memory (it is also incredible for your heart health) Cardio is great for you as well, but the results take longer with this alone, it's very effective when you implement both, and it's incredibly good for you.

Any excersise is good excersise. Short and intense vs long and less intense is an example of healthy activity vs rapid weight loss, walking is good for you, but the hill (short and intense) workout will result in weight loss much faster and with better results.

With my clients who wanted to lose weight fast, depending on their BMI, I'd start them off with a cardio warm-up and strength training regimen, alongside their diet plan. With my diabetic clients, the focus was more towards cardio, as it was to help them shed weight slowly so that they can sustain their new healthy lifestyle and keep the weight off. Ultimately I would place strength training in their plans as well, due to the large amount of benefits from weight training. These were women and men in their 50's, at times, with no desire to be "big" "ripped" or muscular, it is just an effective way to lose weight and create a lean and healthier body.

Thank you! As a personal trainer, anything fitness related -- that can actually help someone in their healthy endeavor -- really makes me happy, especially if I can help and give good advice.

    • Can't afford a bike right now, aren't weights more for building muscle? Don't have anywhere big enough in my apartment to skip rope :( jumping jacks is a good idea and I've got enough room :) swimming would be a good low impact exercise but no way I'm I getting my stomach and moobs out in public for swimming lol

Haha moobs. Weights will bulk you up if you lift heavy and do fewer reps but they will tone you if you do more reps at a lower weight. Even water gallons would help. They weigh about 8 pounds each. Squats are good. Yoga. Ummm... oh and I got my bike out of a dumpster :)

Aren't stair climbers supposed to be a better workout than a treadmill, if one is healthy enough for the activity?

IIN is not a fucking exercise forum, you can go almost anywhere on the internet for that shit. This forum is for whining about your dick size.

  • climbing up hills is good , especially between pine trees. Or up a steep street not stopping till the top, sometimes a view when catching the breath....but long is nice too so relaxing to walk around near water , a long walk around the coast line to the next beach

    • Yeah the view surprised me i was aware of the formation but had never climbed it, the ground it's on is already elevated compared to the rest of a very flat county so the view is great, there's a massive field on top which I didn't realise and other fenced off private fields behind it and to the left just a 20 min walk from my bustling town there's a small slice of peaceful countryside I never knew about, then when you turn around from that there's a view stretching for miles of the lights of the city and countryside in the distance
