She said these things about my cousin??? iin?

Me and a friend of mine went to a party, she's very religious and firm in her beliefs. She met my older cousin, who is 24 and not married. She's also pregnant. The dad shows no sign of involvement as he dumped her when he found out. My cousin told my friend this straight off because she likes everyone she meets to know the situation so there's no confusion about it, but my friend almost choked on her drink, and told her it would be ideal if she married. My cousin doesn't want to right now, she wants to focus on her baby more than meeting men.

My friend walked straight off, and when I went after her she called my cousin insecure and ignorant to 'God's plan'. Right to my face. In the weeks following, she would say these things frequently. And things like "That kid is as good as Satan's now." or "She'll go to hell."
I kept reminding her that my cousin genuinely thought she was gonna marry this guy and he dumped HER, but she wouldn't have it. I completely respect religion, though I am an atheist. But I think this is OTT and obssessive. IIN?

And yet another example of how religion makes otherwise perfectly nice and kind people say horrible and wicked things. Man that is fucked up, saying that an unborn child is going to spend eternity burning in hell. Fucking religious cunts man.

If your friend was religious and not ignorant then she would know that no one can judge anyone else.

    Is your friend a Christian?

If she's a christian she sure hasn't much read the Bible where it is said that one should not judge. As a christian she should not show such intolerance. Christians should not and are not taught (in the Bible) to look down on people. This is very sad. I hope that she will realise her error.

Perhaps she is adamant about your cousin's child having a father figure because she believes it is necessary for a child's healthy growth, and I do agree, but to be forced into something like that, and the words the she used were uncalled for, and untrue, from a christian perspective and just plain human one I think she's a little naive.

Why don't you ask your friend why it is so important to her that your cousin marries, in detail, and ask her to explain in terms that are secular, and if she can't then I don't know what to say.

Anyways I hope it all works out.

Funny thing is, religion teaches respect, kindness, to be grateful and to help those in need. A good half of religious people are complete fucking assholes. I've met a few Christians who have told me completely outright that I am going to burn in hell. And they are the ones who approached me and said it without provocation. When I responded about Jesus' teachings of respectfulness, kindness and forgiveness, they acted like they didn't hear me and carried on throwing insults in my face.
Recently, I have been finding atheist as the most non judgemental, polite, kind people than the religious.
I was brought up religious, would consider myself atheist. I respect religions because in theory I think it's an interesting topic. If you follow a religion because it makes your life all the better, then thats great. But if you don't respect me, then I won't respect you. Treat everyone how you would like to be treated. I think that's fair.
There is absolutely no excuse to be so rude to someone who you have never met before.

Now maybe you can see why I hate religion. It is a brainwashing that turns relatively intelligent people into hypocritical assholes. Like this girl is perfect? Not a very Christian attitude is it? hypocrites, one and all!
