She reads harry potter books

my group of friends, we're all in our twenties and we were all hanging out in one of our friends apartments and she had a harry potter book lying on her her table it was about a stone i asked her if her neices had been over because she has neices that are ten and eleven and she said no and asked why so I pointed out the book and she said
'oh i was reading that.'

WTF? it's a childs book... you can tell from the cover the way drawing was on it and plus the books look thin enough to be a novel for twelve year olds and i know the books are for children i saw part of one of the movies once because my younger sister was watching it and even that looked childish there was a kid puking slugs

is she a loser or something? she is twenty three years old!

  • Wow - you really sound like a disrespectful little puke. Some friend. She enjoys reading. Why don't you give it a try and not be Judge Prick on other people's reading tastes?

wow, you are literally judging a book by its cover.
why don't you read the series before you mock your friend on the internet?

you sound like a horrible friend

One of the reasons Harry Potter is so successful is because of it's wide range appeal.
    Anyone can read them.
Infact, if you were to read the last few books you will see the dark edge it has.
The last book is closer to Tolkein than Dahl for example..

She's normal. You're not. Why are you judging her like this? I get it if you think it's a little weird that she reads those books, but your overreacting. Why does it matter if she reads kid's books? Seroiusly, you're being to judgemental....back off.

You sound like a total jackass. I'm a huge HP fan, and you don't have to be a ten-year-old to enjoy it. At least the girl reads at all and not just sits around and watches fucking MTV all day, which is probably what you do. And if you actually read some of the books, particulary the seventh one, you would realize that it has plenty of mature themes too.

My girlfriend comes from a very religious family who banned her from reading anything fantasy. I decided to read Harry Potter (or the unkempt gardner as I like to call him) to her every night. We're halfway done the first book by now, and it's been great fun for her. It makes for a great story to read aloud. It's a child friendly book, but there's a difference between something that's designed FOR children, and a book that's child-friendly. A children's book is something like Doctor Seuss. A simple short read, not too thick on characters. A book that's child friendly is something pretty much everyone can enjoy, including children. Harry Potter falls into the latter category and is one of my favorite books to read to children at the daycare I work at because sometimes the parents stop by and listen too. Though maybe it's just to make sure I'm not subverting them into witchcraft or something. (I'm not pagan or anything, sheesh)

When im 80 i will be reading Harry Potter and my family will say 'After all this time' my only reply shall be "Always."

Harry Potter is one of the most influencial, amazing and amzing books which will live on. If you havent read it then dont judge it, the comments you have made could offend quite alot of people (AKA Most people between the ages of 13-33) since many of us have grown up with Harry, Ron and Hermione xx :)

You are a dick. And not the good kind. Do you seriously have the self confidence of a teenage girl that you have to bring your friend down about what shes reading? Seriously, if youre going to make a rude statement at least have real evidence. I know tons of adults that read harry potter. Plus at least she wasn't reading twilight and picturing every guy as a pale gay ass fairy. Fuck you.

It's completely normal. The book your friend had was probably the children cover edition. They sell adult-covered ones as well. Also, the higher in the series you get the thicker the books become. The first 3 are quite thin, and the first 1-2 are a bit childish and good for young children. But the higher you go to the end, the longer and darker the books get. That's the great thing about Harry Potter, everyone can relate and enjoy the books without reading outside of their reading level. If you think it isn't normal for your adult friend to be reading Harry Potter, then I'm sorry to inform you but it's infact you who isn't normal. I suggest you read the books and watch the movies before you decide to judge others for their book preferences.

the first one (relating to the sorcerers stone) is somewhat geared towards preteens but the books mature with the audience and also at least she IS reading most people dont and dont know what theyre missing i applaud your friend

I suggest you read it, and then comment. The first book was childrenish, with preteens considered maybe. She then grew up with her audience - for instance, a line in the final book:

    "Not my daughter you bitch"

Stargirl made a good point. It's not about how old she is, at least she is not wasting her time doing stupid stuff. I meaan, I will tell you that I don't read the Harry Potter book series and I tried the first one and wasn't interested somehow (gasp!!! lol). But hey, I mean there is no telling who can or cannot read a book; they are marketed for everyone. I don't think you should say that she is a loser. What she reads is her own personal thing and I bet you'd be surprised how many adults read Harry Potter! Honestly. The Harry Potter books go beytond just fictional characters, it is attention grabbing for young and adult readers alike.

it's better if you read them in your twenties because then you can understand some of the historical/mythological allusions
I've read each one about 3 or 4 times. I cant put them down!
I'm 17 btw...my 50 year old dad enjoys them as much as I do

I am a huge fan of the books and i think harry potter is the only childs book that adults can get away with reading if, i saw a 30 something year old person on the tube reading harry potter i would be ok with that but if he got another childs book and start reading that i would seriously think he was fucked up in the mind

I have never personally read them but I have heard from my friends, who are in their 20's, that it is a great book. It may be an easy read for people our age but it's still a good story. Also, I'm 22 and the first book came out when I was in Jr. High. The last book just came out this past year. Maybe she wants to finish the damn series.

Have you ever read a Harry Potter book? I wouldn't necessarily classify them as a "children's book". They're pretty adult and graphic. My ex has read all of them and, no, I don't judge him. I think it's completely normal! Get off of your friend's back - you're being judgemental and rude.

    Judgemental much?

Who cares what books she reads, how does that make her a loser for christ sake. I'm 19 and I still enjoy the Harry Potter movies, does that make me a loser? I personally think it's childish that you would have such thoughts about a person, she's not the one who's imature in this situation, i'm sorry.

I'm 19 and my sister is 24. We read the books when they came out. It's a decent series - maybe not worth ALL the hype, but I thought they were well written, funny, and *gasp* actually FUN to read. Maybe it's you who is being immature for judging someone by the books they read - and THEN judging the book by it's cover.

Id take a 12' Ebony with Unicorn Hair wand over a bottle of whiskey any day. Yes Albus is gay but threres nothing wrong with being homosexual and many witches and wizards prefer flying carpets, enchanted cars/motorbikes, thestrals, hippogriffs over a broom stick :) just saying....
