Self conscious of the length of my replies on social network sites?

I have a habit of providing lengthy, overly verbose responses or posts on forums, facebook or other social networking sites. I try to trim down their length but fail. I worry others find the length pedantic, tl;dr or annoying.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it normal?

Sometimes it's good to have a lengthy comment to get your point across but if you're answering the question "what color is the sky?" There's no need to write an award winning novel.

When you consider that 99% of 'normal' people are jerks who use text-speak every time they write and have hardly the patience nor intelligence to string together a two-line reply, then in comparison you're not 'normal'. But then again I certainly don't admire those 'normal' people and probably you don't either, so just be yourself - if any of those 'normal' people criticise you just brush it off... it's like being offended by a cow mooing at you... it really doesn't matter.

Dissing people's usage of short replies and text-speak makes you look conceited, not intelligent. However I agree that being yourself is more important than sucking up to a pre-conceived standard or notion.

I understand why you have this. People have very short attention spans these days.

If I can give advice, maybe just leave your concluding statement as a comment and dump the rest in a blog. It can be great inspiration to write about a certain topic, and you can expand on it for your own interest and documentation.

Being verbose is not actually good writing.
