I was reading a debauched celebrity’s biography in which he recounts his headmistress telling him to grab his ankles before caning him in-front of an audience of other teachers and it made me wonder if such experiences in childhood could mould someone to enjoy BDSM as an adult.

It’s generally accepted that many unusual fetishes have their roots in childhood experiences and the phenomenon of Sadomasochism being arousing to some was first reported by a psychologist in 1886, when caning in Victorian schools was very much alive and kicking.

Of course most people don’t take kindly to a spanking but when my older colleagues were talking about their school days one guy seemed nostalgic as he told me how his school “was very fair as each teacher had a slipper to hit us and only the headmaster could use the cane” with a smile.

So what do you think, did schools’ corporal punishments unwittingly raise a few generations of ass smackers?

No; I don't think so. It might allow someone to find out about such a thing, but I don't think that would be the cause such a thing. I say this from my experience, at least: fetishes are discovered, not created.

  In my observations women find it easier to develop fetishes as adults whilst men tend to be able to trace the origins of theirs back to the childhood or teen years.

  That’s probably true these days thanks to spanking being outlawed in most first world schools. Do you suspect it stems from the fathers spanking or ignoring their daughters? And how do you think spanking fetishes are being induced in present day men?

    Daddy issues are a spectrum. The human brain is a confusing organ. Probably isn't 100% daddy issues. Porn usage probably has something to do with it too. Porn is getting more hardcore with time, so peoples fetishes get more extreme too.

      I suspect earlier introductions to porn and BDSM material are also playing a role, especially in men. In my observations women can develop new fetishes in adulthood more easily whilst men can usually trace most or all of theirs back to their childhood or early teens.

I doubt it. It seems pretty widely recorded that sexual trauma plays a big part in people's fetishes later on, but I'm not sure spanking and caning in this context would have usually fallen into that category. Otherwise wouldn't everyone in those generations be a depraved masochist?

Personally I also believe some amount is inherent to some people.

I got paddled at school every year until middleschool. I was alwqys in trouble. . I dont have this fetish or kno anyone else that does. I could see where it could possibly give you that fetish tho.
