Ever since I read this story, http://isitnormal.com/story/beating-my-children-31082/
I have feared being bashed by my mother/others with a bag of apples. It has truly scared me, I can no longer eat apples or even look at them without freaking out.
Is this normal?
It's normal because everyone has one or two phobia's. But try and overcome it because really, im sure your mom wont try to hurt you and apples are inanimate fruit.
Most people have certain things that trigger irrational fears, I know many people are making fun of toy on here but so many people have fears of things like Clowns, Dolls, etc. Seemingly harmless things, but cannot even be in the same room with them because one certain thing triggered it. Almost everyone has an irrational fear. Yes, it's normal.
I meant to say "make fun of you", but you probably realised that. Maybe I have an irrational fear of not correcting spelling errors? :P No, but seriously... most people have something weird from their childhood that they're scared of, or just something that seems ridiculous to other people but it is normal. Perhaps most people just don't view their own fears as silly though.

It's not entirely abnormal to be profoundly affected by tales such as the one you mention.
But, it has to be kept in perspective.
Allsorts of people do allsorts of freaky stuff with allsorts of wierd things, but you're not scared of all of them are you?
Easier to say than to do, perhaps, but you need to shake yourself a bit and tell yourself not to be so daft.
Nah most moms are smart they would beat you with a bag of oranges or a rubber hose so it would not leave any bruises.
