Same dream for months now.

I keep having this same dream almost every time I go to sleep. It's been happening for almost 8 months now. I am in a small boat and I'm rowing towards this distant shore. As I get closer I can see people lined up on the shore line, but there is this one figure that is always notable. He's standing in the middle and he's often shrouded like he's wearing a robe. It's night time and everything is calm. Even as I get closer I still cannot see his face. You'd think I would have jumped ship and started swimming the other way but I find myself strangely comfortable with the situation. When I'm almost to shore I wake up sweaty and with an elevated pulse. Does this happen to anyone else? Because It's freaking me out. Is this kind of recurring dream normal?

I think it means something. I think it's a spiritual dream of some kind and maybe God is trying to show you something. The fact that you are rowing from one shore to the other, could represent a journey you are on or will be taking. Is there something you have asked him help for? The fact that it is night could mean you are unsure of the unknown, but you will brave it through the dark to get the answer(s) you need or are looking for. The people you see on the distant shore could be people that were like you,and they reached the place/shore you are trying to get to.. They made it, so can you. The man with the robe in white that you find soothing could very well be God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, or an Angel/guide. If you find him soothing, that is a good and reassuring sign.

Are you a religious or spiritual person, .. Like do you believe in God? Honestly I think God is trying to show you something. If you are afraid, or there is an important decision you need to make maybe he wants you to brave it through the dark and put your faith in him, no matter what it looks like around you. I am not trying to scare you but one can't help but think of a premonitious or recurring dream of what you describe and not think passing from this life to the next. I don't say that to scare you, not at all. That doesn't mean it could be a natural death, but it could be mean the death of the old you and coming into a new chapter in your life. However, if you do not or have ever acknowledged Jesus, please consider looking deeper in serious reflection of your life and where you stand personally in regard to salvation.

Again, this could be a subjective dream and represent a few different things.. But one can never be sure. I know God loves you beyond compare.. So he must be trying in some way to get your attention or show you something special. Honestly pray about this dream, and ask God to show you what it's about.. He'll listen.

After several more months of this dream, I came to realize why it all began. Most of you can probably tell by my name that I am, or was a soldier and Iraq war veteran. A few years back I was held from deploying due to a small medical problem. My friend who was deployed in that same unit was killed when an IED went off beside one of our trucks. We were very close and I know in my heart that I should have been there, I blame myself on a daily basis and I know I'll always keep this with me. His face was on that shore line. I just remembered I wrote this a long time ago and I thought I should let everyone know.

I dreamed I drowned in my truck for 2 years straight..usually drove it into a body of water, even died in my dream a few times....usually the same dream, sometimes a little different, but always the same outcome...I sold the truck (not b/c of the dream) and it stopped. I was always a little afraid it would really happen, still don't like to drive in the rain! I think not everyone experiences dreams for this long, but there are others out there! :D

  • yes this is normal, my mom had the same dream repeatedly after my Aunt (her sister) died. She always had the same dream that was actually a memory of hers. It happened for months. And she really believed in her dream that her sister was still alive. But when she woke up it was like a splash in the face, and it's like she was losing her all over again.
What my mom said she did was one night in the dream she said to her sister ' NO this is a dream, your dead. I have to stop having this dream it's hurting me. And is stopping me from getting on with my life' and she woke up and never had that dream again.

I can give you a psychologist report on my own experience of this...

I had a recurring dream, i was in a house and it was night-time and quiet. A yellow glow wat coming from the kitchen so i went to look, there was a fire. At this point my body was gone but i saw the flames running right through the house and burning the bed that had people in them... i didn't know who's house it was and the faces weren't recognisable to me because of the fire. I stopped having this dream when 3 of my friends were killed in a house fire that began in the kitchen! Me and my brother escaped.
I started having a new dream 2 months later, terrified i fear it would become reality so i informed my psychologist who gave me this explanation.
"You have over 32,000 dreams a night, so the 'recurring' dream is just one of them that you happen to remember, the house fire was coincidential as 32,000 different scenario's at least one of them will be real soon wont it?"

It's just that you remember that dream for some reason... the cloaked man... do you know anyone that might wear a robe? or have anyone you might have reason to fear?

I had several dreams several times each with only slight variations when I was younger. After doing weed for the first few times, there were a few months of weed and LSD-filled dreams. I was hooked by curiosity. After doing dramamine, there were a few months of terrible nightmares about horror, rejection, retardation, and overdosing.

well, 8 months iz pretty long. i think it means something. the person in the robe is probably god. r u religious? if not, u should start looking into it. cuz i think ur time is coming and jesus is calling u to Catholicism. the people in the dream are everyone else in heaven calling u. hurry up, no time to lose!(wait, is there?)

P.S. saint Joseph of the colors is the patron st. of dreams.

I think a repeating dream over such a long period of time is quite unusual and could be indicative of a physical problem.
The dream itself seems similar in some ways to the "light at the end of a tunnel" experience described by many NDE accounts, and an elevated pulse seems consistent with oxygen deprivation.
So I would be concerned about serious sleep apnea.
If you sleep with a partner, maybe they have noticed breathing interruptions. If not, maybe your doctor would like to set you up on a sleep study.

I guess it's possible that it may be caused from abnormal breathing while sleeping or just from some disturbed memory I have, but to have the dream over and over in exact detail and I always remember it when I wake up. You have my thanks however, it's just good to hear that it's at least somewhat normal.

It's a dream. It is as significant or insignificant as you please. Try lucid dreaming. Learn to control your dreams and explore these dream characters fully. That is really the best answer you are going to get.

  • When i was in kindergarten, i had a dream of being inside a van and seeing my family with these cheesy, creepy smiles, and then the door would close and the car would start violently rolling backwards down a hill and then I'd wake up.

I'm pretty sure repeating dreams are normal, but i cant say if they mean anything because i dont believe in thta

Have you ever thought about who that robed figure is supposed to represent? There is obviously some anxiety about getting near him, otherwise you wouldn't wake up in a frantic, disturbed state.

There was a man that wore a robe that stood on beaches with many people lining up just to hear him speak. His name was Jesus. He may be calling you to him. It's biblical that God uses recurring dreams to convey messages to His children.

This dream may be God trying to get to your heart. The anxiety might be you resisting Him in some way? Think about it. I wouldn't avoid the meaning of the dream or more intense dreams may follow.

From what I hear, God does not usually take people who are ready to die. I've always considered myself a religious person, but the fact that the almighty would be trying to contact me through a dream just seems unbelievable. Would he be telling me to say my goodbyes and repent for the things I have done? If so, why does this not happen to others?
