Right arm, lost, handicapped, friend

I have a friend who doesn't have a right arm. He always kinda kept away from me...he had a prosthetic limb..a good one mind you...it looks so totally real...really it's amazing how real it looks anyways he recently told me how and when he lost it...I just met him we don't see each other as much as I would like to. Hes 21 he lost it when he was 13 years old so he has learned to accept the fact that he lives in a world made for 2 arms but he has one he knows and accepts it. What should I get him gift wise? What should I never say even joking around? I just don't want to help him and for him to get offended if you know what I mean. What should I do or not do? How should I act?....Thank you =]

Don't do things for him without asking. If you think he might want help with something, ask him. If he says no, let him do it himself. Obviously, don't make jokes about electrocution, because that might be traumatic. Otherwise, treat him like you would any other friend, and if you don't know if something is ok, ask him.

Did you know that composer Maurice Ravel had a good friend who was a concert pianist, and he went to fight in WWI and lost his right arm? After he returned, Ravel wrote the Piano Concerto for the Left Hand for him. That's an epic gift.

Maybe tell him the story, then get him a copy and he can learn to play?

I kind of weird if I had a friend like this I probobly be telling him how awesome his arm looks. I knew a kid without a hand when I was little and did the same thing. We were good friends. I was the only person who treated him like a normal person since everyone else would say "gross he a freak he doesn't have a hand". I was a very odd child. Just treat him like a normal person. They are people just like the rest of us. I was always his partner in dance class since I was the only one willing to hold his hand. The class was mandatory and no one really wanted to be in it. So its not like were all professional dancers.

Be honest and straight forward with him. If he seems to need help say " can I help with that " just like you would anyone else. Basically treat him just like you would anyone else.
