Random internal dialogue

Whenever I'm concentrating on something or doing some sort of mindless task (e.g. brushing my teeth) I get thoughts that seem to be just "happening" in my head, I'm not willingly thinking them. It's almost always somebody arguing with someone else and it is very clear but completely random. It's sort of like as if the radio was on but instead of hearing it I'm thinking it. Does anybody experience this?

I do have a history of mental illness but I can't directly attribute it to anything, and wonder if it's just a normal thing.

It's pretty normal, being able to have thoughts in your head (even ones that you may not be noticing) is healthy as hell. I would say unless it starts to feel like you can't control these thoughts and they start to affect your life in some negative way that you are doing fine.

  • Sounds similar to me. Also similar mental disorder. I experience the same thing. Maybe not actually normal, but a result of our condition. What I do to improve it is to fill my mind with complex thoughts, so that I feel better about all that dialogue in my head, cuz it makes me think about something deep.

Yeah happens to me too except that there is a person sitting in my mind who always contradicts my every thought he is just sitting there to argue with me so i'd say it's normal
