Raise your right hand?

I had to appear in court via telephone and the magistrate told me to raise my right hand, "do you swear to tell the truth..." oath thing.

Well, I didn't raise my right hand. I was holding the phone with it! Oh well. I don't remember if I told the whole truth or not.

But seriously, did he really think I raised my right hand? I think he did.

Technically you did as you have to raise the phone to your ear

You could have raised your right hand with your middle finger extended. Magistrate didn't say not to.

Or you could have raised your right hand and had your fingers crossed.

Lol. I don't think some of them realize it. They're just simply speaking from memorization with no thought behind it.

    • Oh no, he was 100% serious. This is about the 20th time I've appeared in his court. I should know!

No. I'm sure he was. What I'm saying is that he probably said it without realizing consciously what he was doing.

Or they MUST say it even if it sounds dumb.

        That is funny though..lol

        • Erm ok. I'm sure he was thinking and meant it. We had already been carrying on for a while, first just rehashing the established facts of the case. It wasn't until we ventured into uncharted territory when he asked to swear under oath.
