Quote tattoos are the next cliche-tatts?

Having words of inspiration or affirmation tattooed on the body looks like the latest rage these days, particularly for the gals. I predict that, in about ten years time, these type of tattoos will be the next wave of tattoo clichés that everyone wants lasered off their bodies.

Most of these quotes girls have inked on their young bodies are advertisements which scream of insecurity, an insecurity typical of distressed youth. But everyone eventually grows up and they learn to deal with the crap life throws at them without the need to have a permanent reminder of how to cope scripted on their forearm, chest, rib-cage, or neck.

Some examples, all tattooed on females:

"Life's too short to worry. Life's too long to wait."
"Without struggle there is no progress."
"With pain comes strength."
"I refuse to sink."
"I'd risk the fall just to know how it feels to fly."
"No regrets."
"Life is about taking chances and never regretting them."
"Don't forget to love yourself."
"She flies with her own wings."
"Keep smiling."
"The will to live will always outweigh the ability to die."
"Know your worth."
"Remember who you are."
"Fall down seven times, stand up eight."
"Not all those who wander are lost."

I disagree. 37
What? I have one of those! 13
I hate all tattoos, end of story. 18

        I don't have a tattoo.

I might get some freckles tattooed on my bum in the shape of the southern cross.

Omg, I always make fun of girls with those 'cutesy' little quote tattoos! They're so overdone & sad. Get a real piece!

Eh, I want to say you're wrong, but uhh... most of my friends that have the inspirational quotes (One has the "I refuse to sink" one) are distressed, insecure girls who, in most cases, did a pretty good job of fucking up their lives for themselves.

I don't want to say it's cliche because I don't understand tattoo culture in general (being that I'm just not that into it, kind of like how I am not into kayaking and shit), but uhhh... yeah, I've noticed what you have observed as well.

Uh does she have "I refuse to sink" tatoo with anchor? Because most of those people don't realize anchors are supposed to sink.

if it is a quote with great meaning to you, that encourages you to better yourself, i think it's great. however, i would only get a certain tattoo that pertains to my struggles and has encouraged me and meant something to me all my life, like "beauty is a state of mind/beauty lies in the eye of the beholder." however, this is different for everyone, so i think it's really wrong to decide what people can and cannot do. your body, your rules. not your body, not your rules. :) xo

    • Now THAT is clever.

Do you tell people how it's there to get you through the tough days?

No, I just use it as an intro to tell them about my God-like penis.

I think that they will become cliche-tattoos, but I don't think that many people who got the tattoo after going through a hard time would want it removed.

Someone who worked with someone I went out with had "It's Only Life" tattooed on her arm. When things got too bad or serious or upsetting she'd look down and see the words and it'd remind her not to be so intense. I'm not generally a fan of tattoos like this but I liked hers and the story behind it. It meant something and I think it really did act as a useful reminder.

I'm not a fan of cliche quotes, they're cringe inducing. My Aunty does have some song lyrics on her arms, though, from the song Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse:

    "Best,
You've got to be the best
You've got to change the world
And use this chance to be heard
    Your time is now"

She's 38, so not a teenager just getting some cheesy quote. Although, my cousin (said Aunty's daughter), has "Warmness on the Soul" on her chest in massive writing. My cousins tattoos are something I'd personally avoid, because she's barely got any room left to tattoo and she's only 21. I can't myself ever getting a quote (although, who knows!).

I see all sorts of tattoos and I honestly have no idea which type will be the one most frequently regretted. I can't say I have noticed a lot of phrases specifically. What I do see a lot of on both males and females are sleeves. Those are a bit harder to remove.
