Quiting smoking

is it normal that i act like a total dick when im trying to stop smoking? i get very anxious and jumpy. if i take anything the wrong way, instead of thinking it through or just letting it pass i act right then and there and we all know what happens when ppl act right on command........any advice on how to go about things would be great

The only advice I have is never use patches that shit makes u have the most realistic scary ass fuckin dreams ever.there's even a warning on the box " may cause strange Or unusual dreams" but it doesn't do it justice.

Ya, its rough. I need to quit so bad. I've smoked at least a pack a day for 17 years (I'm only 30!) I know a few people who quit with cold laser therapy and one person who used chantix. And my grandma quit through hypnosis like 20 years ago. My husband and I tried to quit together but that lasted a whole 43 hours. We waste soooo much money on cigarettes, its disgusting. We wouldn't be so f-ing broke if we quit. Even if just I quit, that would save $400a month!! Now I think I'll try again. Cold turkey during pms. Whooo! This should be fun!!

What you're going through is typical for nicotine withdrawal - irritability, anxiety, short fuse. Recovery is largely dependent on how much and how frequently you smoked, but generally the physical symptoms subside within a week or two. The psychological cravings can linger on for 6-12 months or longer tho I'm afraid.

I'm gonna try quitting tobacco this..nah, next week. The problem is I'm using "snus", a Scandinavian form of tobacco which is basically ground up tobacco leaves mixed with salt, water and some flavor and then packaged in small "bags" that you place under your lip. The thing is each "bag" contain on average 8 mg of nicotine (sometimes up to 16), quite a bit more than your average cigarette and thus the withdrawal is hellish.

The only advice I can give you that'll help somewhat is to stay busy and _exercise_ a lot. You'll want that endorphine rush, believe me. Chewing gum helps for some people as well, give it a go.

    Anyway, good luck to ya!

I quit cigs Jan 1st 2010 and it's been like 5 months and I am still craving and get jumpy when I need cigs but as of about 3 weeks ago I totally stopped (I only hit cigs like once or twice when I'm super faded.) but it's been 3 weeks and I'm still addicted it feels like. I used NUTHING to quit. I smoked for only 5 years tho.

Have you tried Zyban or Chantrix. I known long time heavy smokers that have been helped by those meds. Good luck and keep trying.

I say it is normal. I am a smoker myself, but have not really tried to quit. I did stop for like a month or two, but it didnt effect me to much. but people react differently to quitting, with withdraws that can cause very intense mood swings because your brain says it wants nicotine.

My advice... Dont think about it so much. try chewing gum or the end of a pen.

If it continues to happen, get some patches.

If its not just the nicotine addiction, and its more of the motion of taking a hit off a cigarette then buy an electric one.

    Hope all goes well.

its funny you say that because i tried the electric cigs and it just wasnt for me...i was looking into the chantix which is suppose to help alot but im not sure if it=s what i want to do just yet. im just so concerned because im not even quiting for myself, im quiting for my fiance which makes it that much harder and instead of showing her that her opinion about this counts and being more mature about it im a dick without realizing
