Queer vs gay

These days we rarely hear the word queer to describe homosexuals. I don't know why it has fallen from the lexicon, but I never hear it any more, even as a negative.
What are your thoughts?

I find queer offensive 3
I don't give a damn 14
I don't care to be labeled 5
I don't mind gay 1
I don't mind queer 0
I find gay offensive 2

It seems like queer is now used more as an umbrella term for any kind of non-conforming gender or sexuality.

I've heard it used with the LGBTs referring to gender these days, don't remember what exactly it means in that context, but it's supposedly acceptable...

Gender Queer means someone who is neither male or female. I think that's right anyway.

For me queer has always meant bi, not gay

It's not a very common word, you're right.

I don't know how I feel. Some people consider the word "queer" successfully reclaimed/reappropriated, but whether or not it's offensive still depends on who is using it and what they're saying.

"Queer" is kinda a word for "not heterosexual", so not necessarily the same as gay.
