Psychotic depression is it normal to name your voices?

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this here, maybe I'm just looking for what you think of this but do you think it's normal for someone who has depression with psychotic features to name the voices they here and for those voices to have separate identities or is this a different psychotic disorder? Also I know they aren't real but at the same time I can't help but believe they're real.

I have bad anxiety and there have been times in the past I would have a kinda voice... it wasn't so much a hallucination as it was in my head, but it was out of my control and it always registered as not being a part of me... she named herself. Once I actually heard her, a few times felt hands on my shoulders.

Bitch hasn't been around for a while though.

    • Yeah, I wasn't like "Hey, I'm going to name you Alice because you sound like an Alice." haha. They came about in a specific manor.

Seems normal enough, and I know voices and shit like that are common with psychotic depression, anxiety, and a few other disorders too. Doctors were trying to say that's what I have, but I dunno... I don't feel depressed. I just panic a lot, sometimes over really stupid shit. XD

  • Except that someone in a psychotic state is unaware that they are psychotic by definition.

So no it's not normal or true, just retarded.

I think it's normal to name the voices you have, if nothing else but a way to differentiate them.

It might be unusual, but it could be normal. If you have no other way of dealing with your illness, then yes, it's normal.

It sounds like you could have multiple personality disorder which is extremely rare or scitzophrenia

Sounds a bit like schizophrenia to me.

  • It actually sounds quite rational, reasonable, and normal to me. Depression sucks. I can imagine what it would be like to suffer such a severe case. I hope the best for you. Hang in there.

Sure, I'd name them. I'm thinking of naming the different sides of my personality. This should be interesting.

I'm not really sure if that's "depression", so I didn't vote, but I'd say it's normal for somebody who has psychotic features (especially if you here more than one voice).
