Proactiv didn't treat my acne but baking soda is.

I have used proactiv for almost a year to treat my acne and it hasn't done anything, but about 5 days ago i made my own treatment. I read online about a spot treatment made of baking soda and water and decide to tweak it a little by adding olive oil to moisturize my skin and kill bacteria. In just a few days of applying it to my whole face and shoulders, leaving it on for half an hour, then rinsing it off, and then using the proactiv moisturizer only, almost all of my acne is gone!

I have had a similar experience. (With proactiv.) 9

Yeah this seems plausible. The alkalinity of the baking soda probably helped and if olive oil is anti-bacterial (I personally don't know, but it is scientifically recognise that other plant products such as mint and garlic are) then that would definitely have helped clear it up.

Leaving it on for a long time was a good idea.

So well done, you managed to make a home-made treatment that wasn't the normal routine of:
    - throwing random useless ingredients together
    - hoping for the best
    - marvelling when you recover on account of placebo, or recover naturally

Just bcuz u see a particular ad for some product for any issue doesn't mean that's the best solution. Like ads for weight loss pills or "male enhancement" or this.. and the ads for pharmaceuticals are not public service announcements. Its all about promoting their product and making money

White vinegar is good too. Use it at night. Put it on a cotton ball and use it like an astringent. You may need to dilute it with distilled water, otherwise it will cause temporary redness. Don't get it in your eyes.

I would tell my little sister to try this. She has so much pimples. This is ruining her pretty face.

Telling her how much it is ruining her face could cause some major self esteem issues. Trust me, it's taken years for me to get over how badly my dad saying that hurt me.

If I had the tiniest doubt that this could affect her self esteem I would shut my mouth. she would rather not have pimples but it doesn't affect her confidence. She's the strongest girl I know and she is five years younger than I. Her maturity amazes me.
