Ppl on my property at 3am

Few months ago I came home from work at 3am and pulled into my driveway. I thought I had saw a flashlight turn off in my backyard when I pulled in to the side of the yard where I park. I kind of froze and pulled out a pistol I keep in the glove box and put one in the chamber when all of a sudden a flashlight from about 50 feet infront of me shined into my eyes blinding me. Not to be dramatic but was legit in fear for my life. Then as the flashlight came closer it triggered the flood lights to come on and it was like 6 police officers. They were city cops. I quickly hid the gun fearing id get shot if they saw it in my hand. I got out and said can I help you. They all walked right passed me except one, the older cop, he said that they were conducting an investigation and not to worry im not in trouble. I was like hey man yall cant just be walking around my yard at 3am my wife is asleep if she saw flashlights in the backyard she could think it was bad guys. He told me I should put up no trespassing signs and they walked passed me and to their cars which I had failed to notice. They acted annoyed by me. They were kind of out of view.

I have been dumbfonded by this for months. I have no idea what they were doing. All I can think is they were snooping on my neighbor who lives behind me off in the woods. But then why would they have flash lights? I have noticed a lot of traffic comes in and out of that house. I called the chief and he said there was no report and he would get back to me which he did not.

They were extraterrestrials. What you think you remember was a cover memory.

They were male strippers gang banging your wife and got lost looking for their car.

  • I dunno man, to me you seem to be indulging your presuppositions about why they were there

Would you rather them tell you they're tracking down a murderer? I mean they could have, even if they weren't

Fact is you have no clue why they were there except that you were told you're not in imminent danger

I get your perspective, you're coming home from work and see people snooping around

But maybe they were annoyed because in the midst of performing work that was necessary a civilian comes along to say it is, in fact, illogical for them to be there

You know how many customers I've had to deal with that think they know more about running a food business? They're only experts when they're hungry though, ask them any other time and their modesty begins to show

And yeah, as for the chief, he just told you that to get you off the phone. I've done that too. Just the other day a customer claimed to have been cut off by my driver whom he then followed. I told him that driver's on his last leg and I'll be firing him when he gets, to his sincere applause. When the driver got back we laughed about it

Fact is you'll probably never get an answer. There are probably loads of people like you who feel like they know better than the police. You're just a stereotype to them, as evidenced by how the chief told you to fuck yourself

And honestly, if you were given answer, you'd probably say "Oh, that makes sense".

But they're probably not going to explain their actions to a civilian when they damn well know they had a reason to be there. Call again, I'm sure you'll be told since it was so long ago they'd have to check multiple files or some shit, you'll get the runaround every time

    • That just sounds unprofessional to me. I wasnt caling being a karen asking for them to be disciplined. If he said he were going to fire someone I would ask him not to do that. Im concerned I was being investigated. I was not rude to anyone. I live out in the sticks with few neighbors. Its not common thing and it's totally my business what they were doing in my fenced in yard at 3am

      • Be real dude, you know how I described it is accurate. If you were being investigated they would have introduced themselves. If you're really concerned then buy security cameras and good locks

One time some drug addict ran through my neighborhood after ditching a stolen car on the main road. they came through all of our yards and looked around to see if he dropped any evidence. they didnt have flashlights because this was during the daylight but thats probably what they were doing.

Sounds annoying and unfair, but there's not a lot you can do realistically. "Who watches the watchmen?" Best to just leave it and not piss them off.

Sounds very unprofessional. Not that they were there, but the way that they handled it when you made yourself known as the property owner.

Not at all surprising. Police often behave very poorly. I've come to expect it.

I find it unprofessional indeed. personally I would have had a very bad reaction and they would surely have killed me.
now if you are sure they were real cops then don't worry.

Between 0300 and 0500 it gets so quiet, the cops need to walk around to stay awake. My guess is that they all got together to smoke a couple of joints.

Police snoops around outside here lately with flashlights too at night. I live in an apartment building though so it's not as weird. It's all the druggies that has appeared in the last year, they hide drugs in bushes and stuff. Apparently.

    • Just remembered a year or 2 ago my wife did complain she heard a phone go off right outside her window... like a video accidentally played and then turned off.

This happened to me before too. But I knew they were cops. There were several unmarked SUVs. And marked cop cars. Me and my friends were having drinks and smoking outside, probably 6 of us. And the police were a few houses down shining their lights at us. I felt very strongly that it was my right to be on my property and watch what was happening. Never heard much.

A couple months ago I was living the the literal ghetto and I would always listen to the police scanner. There was a high speed chase on my street and I guess the dude got out and ran. So again, a few houses down from me, there were a bunch of cops. I went out to smoke and see what was up. And I got super scared that if they saw me they would shoot assuming I was the “armed Blackman” they were looking for. Or that the “armed Blackman” was hiding near me.
