Potato problem

I have had some problems with my potatoes. Usually they grow away happily until I pick them and sell them, but lately I have sensed that they have become restless.
They have not been growing to their full size lately and are a bit off colour.
I have tried talking to them, spending more time with them out at the patch, organising sing songs and party entertainment, but nothing is working.
Please, someone, help.
I need a potato expert quick, but what are the chances of finding someone on this site, today.
It may be a lost cause...but you never know what hero will spring up from the depths...

    You need to threaten your potatoes comrade! Drink vodka in front of them, tell them if they do not shape up, they get fermented and distilled next.

    -Obtain used wine or whiskey barrel.
    -Cut top and bottom rounds and attach hinges and latch.
    -Quarter cut an old potato and plant at bottom of barrel in about 8 - 10 inches of soil.
    -Add a few handfuls of soil every week until barrel is full of dirt.
    -Turn upside-down and begin removing fully grown potatoes and soil as needed until you get to the last one.

    -Quarter cut the old potato and plant at the bottom...
    -etc.
    -etc.

        Just don't bury the leaves and you're good to go.
        One barrel produces enough spuds of any given variety to keep an average-sized family in taters year 'round if kept in a green-house.

        Good luck...
        ...don't get me started on permaculture.
