Posting a "post mortem photo" on facebook

I just saw one, posted by a family member. (I knew the deceased person..)
It gave me the shivers, I felt awful after seeing it and I thought something like that is kind of private? But that's something I thought all the time looking through FB and that's why I don't have an account anymore, so maybe it's just me.

I was wondering: is it normal to do something like that?
Does it happen a lot? I've never experienced it before.

I saw a picture of someone's baby that had died. It was going viral with lots of shares. I thought it was highly inappropriate. I hope no one would post a picture of my dead self on Facebook.

I don't really understand why people take these pictures at all... I have a good enough memory of my passed loved ones in that state without any pictures... I just...don't get it...

No, there is nothing normal about taking photographs of decomposing cadavers with no blood circulating in them and no heartbeat or brain activity, unless, of course, the subject is ME and my international lawyering that has driven all of George's friends away from us, just the way I like it.

For a good creep out google memento mori. Apparently the only pics Victorians had were of dead people.

All the dead people buried in cemeteries would look really gruesome if you dug them up. Someday you will be a gruesome dead underground mess. But, if you looked hot when you were alive so that everyone wanted to fuck you, that's what counts.

Is it normal that it doesn't actually bother me all that much?

    • Well yes, I guess so. I'd feel the same way, I guess it's just 'cause I knew the person and seeing the picture made me feel really bad. I was just wondering if something like this is done all the time.

People post unnecessary things on facebook all the time. The worst Ive seen was a guy that posted pictures of his dead roadkill kitten with his guts spilling over. I was disgusted but the I asked myself "what did you expect, Kevin? It's facebook!" and I stopped feeling bad.

My folks took a picture of my grandma which they can't look at now, because it was really gruesome.
