Please help me someone, is this normal for my hymen?

I have been with my boyfriend for just over two years, and we've decided we want to have sex. i have heard all the stories about hymens breaking/bleeding/hurting a lot etc. i am also aware that all hymens are different and they dont have to do any of the above. however i looked in my vagina to find my hymen, as i was curious. but there is no hole whatsoever, or at least that i can see. i do get my period so there must be a hole somewhere, but i have never tried using a tampon and i literally cant see any hole? is there something wrong with me? i am extremelly scared of sex now because of how much it is going to hurt, however i really do love my boyfriend. he has always said he would never pressure me, so that is good. i'm just so scared, i dont know what to do. is this normal?

If you're this worried you might want to wait until you're at least 18.

if it's a romance that's meant to be... it will wait.

There are 4 general types of hymens. The most common is a crescent. Basically its a C shape in the hole. The next most common is a partial hymen, which is basically like an I across the hole. The next type of hymen is a perforated full hymen. I covers a majority of the hole, but has little holes in it to allow the passage of fluid through its middle. The last one is a full hymen, and with the exception of a small hole, is relatively solid covering the hole.

The hymen is generally considered a protection mechanism. Small girls are closer to the ground, and rougher to their bodies (sitting on twigs, branches, leaves, rocks, etc.) *think 3-5 year olds The hymen is designed to keep contaminates out until she is old enough to deal with/handle the pain of it breaking. A majority of girls break their own doing exercise, or some other kind of physical, non-sexual activity. However, the hymen itself is thin enough around 8 years old to be broken with manageable pain. Starting around that age (I've read reports as young as 6) the hymen starts to become more thin, and eventually looks like thin skin over the entrance. Making it less painful, and easier to break.

Not all girls bleed. Some bleed profusely. Every body is different. In your case, I would recomend you using a finger and stretching yourself out. I'm not sure how old you are, but it sounds like its pretty thin to begin with. Stretching/popping your own is usually less painful than someone else doing it. If you can get yourself up to two fingers, you've pretty much broken it.

If your scared to do that, try doing some gymnastics or riding horses. Both of those are notorious for taking hymens. Just remember, its something every girl goes through, you aren't alone, and it may or may not hurt/bleed, so theres no reason to be worried. And if it does the latter two, its only once.

  • I think it would be hard to see your own hymen correctly but it's just a thin piece of skin. Sometimes it gets torn as a child if you do sports or gymnastics.

It might hurt but only for about a few seconds and if it bleeds, it's a small amount.

Stop worrying about it though, your hymen isn't that important. A hymen doesn't make a virgin, not having sex is where virginity comes into it, if that's what you'ere worried over.

Yes just as some guys are born without a prepuce there are some girls born without a hymn. It is also possible that you broke it as a young child and didn't realize it. Your doctor should have said something during your exam if something was wrong.
