I chose Sleepless in Seattle. I love those kind of movies. Plus, I loved Meg Ryan in the 90's. It was a hard decision for me though. :)

It's hard to really choose just one because different genres offer different kinds of entertainment. Some personal favourites in no particular order are - The Silence of the Lambs, Meet Joe Black, The Lord of the Rings, Die Hard, Let the Right One In, The Killer, Se7en, Dawn of the Dead, Heat, Indiana Jones, The Party, Chocolate, Snatch, 28 days later, Trainspotting, Desperado, Pulp Fiction, Eyes Wide Shut, Fight Club, 3:10 to Yuma, For a Few Dollars More, Inception, Godfather 2 and I can't be arsed writing anymore.

Well, that's a real mixed bag, and I think you're going to get some rude comments. Not from me, though.

I know Citizen Kane is supposed to be the best film ever made and I liked it very much, but I don't think it's the best film I've ever seen. I love Casablanca (I'm in love with Ingrid Bergman, which helps me identify with Bogie). Really like The Godfather too (although I think Goodfellas is a better film. Sacrilege, I know). Pulp Fiction I could watch a hundred times and still enjoy it. It's one of those rare films where I wouldn't change a thing. Not a single thing. I love it to bits. Although that, of course, doesn't make it "best".

Of your list, I think Citizen Kane is the "best" film, but it's not my favourite from your list.

For anyone interested, I think most lists of "Top" films are either biased towards Hollywood or the country of the author of the list. I found this last year:

    http://www.bfi.org.uk/news/50-greatest-films-all-time

I've seen around half the films on the list and think this is one of the least biased I've seen. There's still considerable bias, by the way.

Yea I am pleasantly surprised that Space Odyssey is that high on the list. It's an experience you can't pass up.

Do you know what? I wrote a P.S. to my own message saying exactly that about Space Odyssey and I changed my mind when I remembered that I'd had to read the book as well to make true sense of the film (so in that sense, the film didn't get everything across). However, I loved it anyway, and watching it again after reading the book absolutely blew my mind. It's a wonderful, wonderful film. Sci-fi normally doesn't get imaginative directing, just special effects. Thank God Kubrik got to direct it.

Can you believe it'll be fifty years old soon? I find myself wanting to watch it again right now.

Oh, evil OP!! I really love the first half, except for Casablanca, which I haven't seen yet. I've wanted to watch it for a while, though, so I might watch it soon.:D I have a feeling I'm going to like it. Is it good?

I haven't seen Sleepless in Seattle either. I really like the LOTR trilogy, and Forrest Gump too, although neither of them win.

Damn it! Fine, I vote Pulp Fiction. As much as I love the Godfather and Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction takes the cake! I do love Pulp Fiction:). I've actually been wanting to watch it again recently. It's one of my favourites.

^^BTW, these are my favourites, I'm not sure about the best. Sorry if that's what you were looking for^^

I loved Casablanca and you and I often like the same stuff so I'm guessing you'll at least like it. Although, it helps if you're a bit of a soppy romantic and I'm not really sure you are. :P

God, I really hate it when people do that. Grr, I'm going to have to like it now, aren't I!:P There's nothing worse when someone assumes you won't like something, and then it turns out you don't like it:(. Argh, I'm so petty over this sort of thing, it's ridiculous.

It depends what sort of soppy romantic it is, there's one type that I love to bits, and there's one I really hate. I'm sure I'll like it!:P

Edit: I just read your comment, Goodfellas kicks arse! I love Robert De Niro!

Aww, I'm sorry bananada... umm... face. :P I'm not going to say anything more about it apart from I think I know what you mean about the two types and I *think* this is the one you like.

And don't get me started on Goodfellas. I could talk about that all night. I always tell people it's got one of the few scenes in film that actually scare me.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyyOrCx7JWg

De Niro doesn't say a word in the scene but you can see it on his face that he's weighing up killing Morrie. And he's even smiling, responding to something someone at the bar is saying. It doesn't feel like acting. It feels so real, and it scares the life out of me.

Have you ever seen Casino? Really, really good too!

No, I've never seen Casino before. I'll add it to the list, alongside Casablanca.:P

Great Scene! De Niro really is just the best! I'm not entirely sure why, but I also really love the scene where you get introduced to everyone. I just love the whole thing, to be honest. I haven't seen it in a while, I want to watch it again.

Noooo! Don't get me started talking about this film. The introduction scene is fantastic. It's kind of shot "to" the camera, isn't it, and you feel like they're being introduced to you personally. Anything with Joe Pesci being funny slays me too (he does comedy so well), and I love Henry pistol-whipping that guy who has been messing around with Karen. He comes walking back across the road like an angry bull and every time I see it, I just think, "Jaysus!" Oh, and that tracking shot through the back door of the restaurant, through the kitchen, right to the table. You keep waiting for the camera to change. Oh, and the discovering of all the bodies to the piano section of Layla? How did they think of that? It's perfect. In fact, the music is great all the way through.

P.S. Casino has got loads of the same actors as Goodfellas. :D
