Phobia of paper?

I absolutely hate the feel of normal paper, especially when I've just washed my hands and refuse to touch it. It makes me shudder even to think about it. I always get someone else to handle my paper, or stick something in etc. I always get a funny look, and I've had this 'phobia' ever since I can remember. Is it normal?

I have the same problem. I hate touching paper, cardboard (and the smell), popsickle sticks, wooden spoons, and i cannot CANNOT stand the sound of folding paper. I can't do it myself and when other people do it, it feels like my skin is going to rip off f from the chills i get. It phsycially hurts. it is always worse when i am cold, or when my hands are wet. Like drying my hands with a paper towel makes my lips pucker with discomfort. Its called Sensory Integrational (SI). it is common in people with autism and other mental illnesses, i do not have either of those. I went to occupational therapy for it for 2 years because when i was in school i would have to wear rubber gloves to do my work because i couldn't even concentrate with the paper being all around me. To this day nobody understands the awful feeling i get when i am around it and peopledo not take me seriously. its very annoying and even though the therapy did help it will never be fully better. The best way i cand escribe the feeling is like when someone scrapes on a chalkboard, those chills you get, but 20 times worse. good luck!

thank god im not the only one! i dont think its that common, but its not just you. the sad thing is that i ~love~ to write but this paper thing has been getting progressively worse as i get older. its like i can feel all the little fibers stuck to my skin. the sound of two pieces of paper touching each other or a napkin being used, ugh! its making me cringe right now.

Not everyone feels like you but a lot of people do, I personally hate cotten wool, the feel of it makes me shiver.

Some people just don't like the feel of things.

Of course you are normal. :)

I have the exact same problem. I am a freshman in high school so I am just starting my journey through hell. It makes my life 10x harder. I have had this since about fourth grade but my parents never believed me until last year in 8th grade. I went through an OT program and the brushing protocol. For an entire year, every two hours I had to go be brushed in the nurses office and it was awful. Now in high school we mainly use iPads however there is some paper still involved like in math and literature. I am continuously having to ask for special treatment for my problem and it takes the teachers by surprise and no one believes me and they always ask me for a doctors note or a diagnosis and i never have one. I wish I knew what this was called and I wish people understood. I wish my doctor could diagnose me so people believed me. I wish I wasn’t as insecure about it as I am about it. Right now i am in literature and they are reading and I am playing music in my earbuds so i don’t hear the paper turning. People look at me like im a freak. Does anyone know what this is called or where I can get diagnosed? My senses are to developed to fix it.

I absolutely hate having to peel off the paper from a straw at a restaurant. Especially if it's wet. And when people I'm with play with the paper wrappers from things...sigh, whatcha gonna do, right? Oh well, sucks to be weird. Never ate those dot candy things on the strips of paper, either. And money is technically linen, not paper, if it helps. The smell of a newspaper is nauseating too.

Im now 22 and lately it is doing my head in, I love reading but cant finish the book im on because the feeling of the paper makes me feel sick. I dont know why its become this bad all of a sudden but hope it goes soon as i havent got the money for an ebook sony reader lol
