People with bleeding hearts annoy me as much as heartless people

Personally, I find that all bleeding-and-dysfunctional-heart, no brain attitude just as obnoxious and irritating as heartless attitudes. Having a big, strong heart is a good thing, but it's the ones with the big damaged hearts which are gushing with blood everywhere (metaphorically speaking) and use 0% of their brains that annoy me. I see it all the time when I see activists do activism that actually does nothing but make them look like fools. Worst part is that a lot of them excuse their behaviour simply by saying that "I have a heart" as if it makes anything better significantly. Yes they may have good intentions but the utter stupidity, childishness, progresslessness and (potential) harm that they emit outweigh all the positivity. Examples include people like Spongebob in the episodes "Hall Monitor", where he sets out to do good but not only does he act like an utter idiot, but he causes havoc and causes more damage than any good.

Don't get me wrong, having a big, compassionate heart is the trait of a great person, and that "all brain, no heart whatsoever" isn't a good thing. However, I personally think that the all-bleeding-heart-no-brain mindsets are only 0.1mm above heartlessness.

Is it normal to be irritated by such attitudes?

    • Believe me, I stab at heartless behaviour too.
BTW, I was talking about the general attitude, not the individuals.

I agree with you on this. People with bleeding hearts will get angry at me for not crying at every tragedy I see.

"Oh no that little boy died in the movie. What will we do. This imaginary death that is not really effecting me is going to cause me to cry tears of sorrow" than look over at me. Ask why I did not cry.

When I tell them "Its not real" and they get upset that I am more in touch with reality. Its not my fault they lack a brain! It does not make me fucked up to not fall in love, cry over, or jump off a cliff because fucking Bambi died.

here's a funny example: I was reading a post on Craigslist (best of section) About a woman who took all of a guys chickens and let them loose! she believed she was liberating them.

they ended up being food and/or roadkill.

THANK YOU! i just wish people would actually take the time to think and research something before they take a side, but it seems many people don't even have the patience to read something more than 5 words long.

Of course it is normal, to be irritated by behaviors we see as un necessary.

You just have to find your own ways to cope around people like that and there are many people you can dig into to see why they behave the way they do and have them open up more. Just be yourself around them and if they don't let you, you can always walk away or find other ways to hope to help them.

Let them tell their view point then dive in and tell yours. Maybe they will change their mind if their view is truly wrong.

I do believe that the vast majority of people on this planet are good intentioned people but with a solid dash of misguidedness. I also believe that the vast majority of people on this planet are either a little lazy or a little a less switched on than the rest.

People will usually find the quickest and most efficient (easiest) way to deal with a problem as possible, e.g. posting a notice on Facebook about Kony or buying a badge to let others know they care but without actually doing a damn thing to help. That’s 'usually' fine by me as the only harm with this type of bleeding heart is they use it as a means to 'shortcut' thinking, something we need a lot more on this planet of course.

Usually bleeding hearts are just annoying and harmless UNTIL they start wielding that dreaded Political Correctness weapon and start fighting for causes they don’t really understand based on emotion and lack of fact.

These are the most dangerous ones of all in my opinion. They over react to a single, rare event, usually involving children as if all children are threatened and petition politicians to implement laws that affect the rest of us common sense people. After all, if you are against protecting the children you're a pedo, right?

    • I don't really mind if people with such attitudes actually stick with the organization's leaders (who are generally more educated) and follow them. I mean Kony may have been a bandwagon but I can't really see anything bad that could have come out of it. However, I have seen many go renegade and actually cause more harm than good. I've well too often seen activists turn racist, sexist, violent, or otherwise throw civility and morality out the window, which not only does nothing to help the movement progress, but also causes the movement to be set back 10 steps and get a bad name.

Also, I think that while 'shortcut' thinking can do good (as in charities), I think people can fall prey to manipulative people who have mastered the art of appeal.

    • The reason why we laugh at Spongebob is because it is humourous what peril and situations they get into. Clearly many of Spongebob's traits are far from ideal.

If I was to boycott every show with reprehensible characters I would have boycotted Family Guy, but that's my favourite cartoon at the moment.
