People who don't speak english piss me off

Okay I am not saying everyone person that does not speak English pisses me off, but there are a whole bunch who speak obnoxiously loud. I have to take public transportation daily and there are usually some non english speakers that talk so loud where it just pisses me off when I am trying to get a little rest in. The other people are quiet or are speaking softly except the foreigners! Its so annoying I want to just scream. I also see them look at people say something to each other and laugh! I hate them. Is this normal...?

I feel the same way sometimes, but it is our obligation to tolerate people who are not like us. Your ability to push past your natural prejudices is a measure of your character. Believe it or not, English speakers sound like a-holes in other countries.

Ok, than I do not see what your problem is this is mislabled . you do not care about poeple not speaking englsih you are annoyed by loud poepel that has nothing to do with the fact they speak english why did you add that ? Also you do not know what they are saying for all you know they may have to speak in that tone to communicate diffrent words like some asain ones you have to change the tone of your vioce or the volume and could so the same word quietly or say same word loud and it mean two completely diffrent things .

In chinese changing tone and volume changing meaning of word. Also in spanish rolling or not rolling r on word perro makes it two totally diffrent words.

When you travel to Most other countries, they realize you are American and they immediately have respect for you because of our reputation in the world, go to Mexico and see what happens. I'm not talking about Americanized Cancun either. Go to real Mexico like Tijuana, they come here but hate us because they are illegal, if that makes sense to you. They want to be here no strings attached. I have Spanish friends but they are here legally, so it can be done and that's the problem. They don't want to do it. I lived abroad for 6 years and spent 6 years around 12 to 15 different nationalities, never have I had a problem until I returned home and a Mexican got pissed at me for struggling to understand him. Grant it, he may have been frustrated over just the language barrier but calling me a racist asshole I understood. They have the wrong idea about what it means to be privileged enough to live here and its our own fault for not enforcing the laws. My wife is not American and seeing things from my perspective no way in hell will I ever believe that its OK for them to be here illegally or be here legally and not speak the language. On a permanent resident visa application one of the requirements is that you must be able to read, speak and write in English, I know because my wife filled out the application, that's why they don't become legal. Would you rather have a neighbor who obeys the law or one who just say shit that law doesn't suit me so ill just break it.

i dont think its normal to be so angry at people that dont speak English, id like to see you guys do the same, go to China and assimilate to their culture, see how easy it is... not like any of you would have the balls to take up the challenge....

alot of the people that migrate here dont have the time to pause and think and take the time to study the language, lifestyles of American residents, etc, most of them are trying to escape as refugees from war-ridden countries, trying to escape the drug wars, communist government, poverty, devastation, theyre looking for a new beginning here and trying to stay alive and working, busting their asses off 3 times as hard as any other American citizen for half the pay, with no medical/dental coverage, with no house to their name, immigrants are denied many things, so yeah, SOOOOORRRRYYYY for not taking the time to learn some fucking English, i guess ill try to squeeze it in between my part time at mcdonalds and full time house cleaning job and somewhere in between raising my kids and making my husband his sandwich.... really now, im sure that non-spanish speakers when they do have the leisure and time to learn English, do try to learn, although to all of you the difference is insignificant....

Your use of the English language is poor. How dare you criticize foreigners for their lack of understanding. From what I gather, you are a native-English speaker that cannot engage the language properly.

I want you to say this aloud: "Okay I am not saying *everyone person* that does not speak English" (Drop the word person) It is superfluous.

replace "where" with "that". Where does not make sense in that sentence.

Never end a sentence with a preposition! "in."

"Its so annoying I want to just scream." "Its" should be replaced with "it's" because you're trying to say, "it is." You might also want to insert the word "that" in front of "annoying" or perhaps a comma to make the sentence more clear.

You should not be so solipsistic. You neither write nor probably speak in proper English. Therefore you should not criticize others for their inability to communicate.

I love how you had to criticize my English even though your reading skills were obviously lacking as your post had nothing to do with my post. Does it make you better than me because you can fix typos in my paragraph? This is not a formal report, I am not going to double check everything I say in order to get an A from people like you...

If the object of this rant was to complain about inconsiderate individuals, then I would not have brought up your inability to effectively communicate through written forms. Since you are specifically targeting individuals that do not speak English, I felt it was most appropriate.

Since writing is our sole means of expression on this website, I believe that it is important to write well because it is the primary means in which we are able to present ourselves to others. Writing can convey many things about a person. If you cannot take the time to write effectively, then you should not write at all.

    • Wow, you sound a lot like myself. I am too tired from studying and all of the stress I am under to correct every bit of speach I submit here. In the past it has greatly frusterated me to try to comprehend what idiots write here and I would like to thank you in your quest to end "Internet illiteracy."

However, the guy has a point and there is no way in hell I will be "respectful" or even "tolerant by choice" for those fucktards who are too lazy or too stupid to adapt to the country that my ancesters died for and to protect. Before you go into this, if it was a war worth fighting, like to save my home and not oil reserves, I would fight it without being asked to.

To be simpathetic toward them, no. I did not ask for them to come here, nor did I ask for them to have six kids and get assistance from the government when cripples such as myself cannot get help. I don't have to respect them but as a well adjusted person, I will show a little repect when I leave my home. It does not mean in ANY way that I have to tolerate blarring mexican music coming from outside of my house at two am.

You should place more effort in the things that you type. It demonstrates to others that you may be lacking in your English language skills. If you really wish to end literacy problems online, I suggest that you start with yourself.

I do not mean to offend, but it is important to discuss things in proper English as opposed to the vernacular.

I do not argue that we should sympathize with those who are an annoyance, merely that we treat those with English language difficulties fairly. In other words, they should be treated in the same way.

I would contact the police if my neighbors were disregarding a noise ordinance at 2 A.M. regardless of their knowledge of the English language. It isn't just Mexicans that engage in that behavior.

learn latin and hebrew and you can understand most languages not chinese or japanese at an instinctual level due to Latin and Hebrew being the root of most romance and abrahamic languages.
learn some German is you feel you need to learn gothic-derived languages.

Maybe it seems like the foreigners are speaking louder than the English-speaking passengers because youre focusing more on the foreigners. Kind of like when you buy a new car you start noticing others like it on the road. Idk just an idea.

I think America should universally be English-speaking but we shouldnt complain about casual occuranves of other languages. USA is nothing but a huge melting pot of random cultures and ethnicities so this shouldnt be a new concept.

hey, am hispanisc, obviously speak Spanish. i think you're making assumptions because not all foreigners are loud. i personally, wont scream in public places because i respect other people. and i think we dont try to teach our language to nobody. but knowing other languages makes you a better person that can share experiences with other people that might speak English an another languages. is that wrong? no, it just makes you a multi-cultural person capable to understand other people ( even when they're loud)

I think it's sad when those that criticize others for their lack of English language skills become so defensive when their use of proper orthography is challenged.

Remember it matters because you and other ignorant fools pride yourselves on being able to speak English while others may not be quite so skilled, but your writing skills are deplorable. I have worked with people from other countries who are able to write more effectively than people who grew up in this country, yet their ability to speak the language may be very limited.

One more thing: watch your diction! :)

  • What pisses me off more is how the rest of the world is focusing on their countries to learn and use English and now we are stepping backwards because lazy ass Mexicans come over here and speak spanish (Not worth capitalising.) instead of even trying to learn our langauge. It's so irratating that we are forced to learn their languages and press 1 to speak English on a business call but these fuckers come here and CHOOSE not to learn our language and absolutely refuse to adapt our way of life.

When I went to Vietnam, I begged for months for my girlfriend to teach me her language and I did say the few words I knew by then. I did it out of a sense of respect and honor toward their people. This is just messed up in my opinion.

In your post, you stated how they were being louder than others and rather obnoxious, why does this not surprise me. Where I am living, people keep music down but those god damn mexicans CHOOSE to play their "music" as loud as they can. The landlord in my apartment complex is trying to throw them out and I haven't decided yet to help or not as I just moved in. It just would be so much more nicer if I could study without the "Bump bump Bump bump" shit bleeding through the walls.

I really think racism is one of thee ugliest traits one can have and when people make remarks about another's race, color, language,or whatever it may be,they look like morons. They completely bring themselves into their own stereotype which is "ignorant, uneducated hillbilly white trailer trash" It truly does make me sick how some people can be so judgmental and "think" they might have any real clue as to what they are saying. Before you open your mouth and say things about people who speak another language or are in this (shit hole, broke, rotten) country, maybe, just maybe, you should do your homework because you are the one who looks like an idiot.People are people, you fuckin unintelligent waste of breath. Cool, that remind me of what my best friend and I did, we always make fun of anyone who won't stop stare at us for at least three minutes while speaking in sign language. 'Cause we don't like it when they give us some crappy vibe, so we get rid of it by ridicule them, it's funny like hell when they don't understand a thing what we said... good thing no one else noticed how loud we was so possibly we're too quite... methinks.

I don't know about foreigners being loud, but I think I can see your point. I met two Latino guys, and for some odd reasons my gut tell me something is not right about them. Remember, the first word in a sentence begins with a capital letter.

Never begin a sentence with the word "and."

You may wish to do something to enrich your vocabulary.

I think that you need to take a remedial course on the English language before you can complain with that self-righteous attitude of yours about the inability of others to communicate effectively in English.

Orochi, thank you for trying, at least, to keep some sort of fidelity to the English language on these web-posts. I appreciate your efforts. However, you replied to the original post that sentences ending in prepositions are incorrect (I believe the preposition/adverb in question was "in"). I beg to differ. The (University of) Chicago Manual of Style, which is considered something of a Bible for American editors (and I assume the original poster is American), states in section 5.176, page 249 (hardcover edition, 16 ed.), that: "[t]he traditional caveat of yesteryear against ending sentences with prepositions is, for most writers, an unnecessary and pedantic restriction. As Winston Churchill once famously said, 'That is the type of errant pedantry up with which I shall not put.' A sentence that ends in a preposition may sound more natural than a sentence carefully constructed to avoid a final preposition. ... The 'rule' prohibiting terminal prepositions was an ill-founded superstition. Today many grammarians use the dismissive term [italic] pied-piping [end-italic] for this phenomenon." My own personal (not Chicago) theory is that this rule came about because words like "in" function most of the time as prepositions ("in the house," "in the book," etc.), which causes issues when they occur, as here, without an object, but in fact they can also function as adverbs (as the original poster used "in"), which are perfectly legitimate uses at ends of sentences. Also, I want to emphasize you are most assuredly NOT being pedantic, you're just responding to the same old rules as I myself also used, so please, do harm no foul ;) -- Peace, preserve English! FWIW I agree with most of your original comments on the grammar/punctuation of the original blogger's questions. C'mon, "its"? Get real ;)

AND YES, FOR YOU TROLLS (not Orochi or the original blogger IMHO) WHO SEEK TO AVOID ALL ENGLISH SYNTAX IN YOUR WRITTEN UTTERANCES ON THE WEB, BE DA_NED WITH YOU! (BTW for the trolls, not "with thee" because that's singular, not plural ["you"], and not "with ye" [plural] because "ye" is in the nominative case, not the objective case)
