People who don't pay for this site go almost unnoticed

When I joined this site there was no "gold" and everyone's stories were posted in order they were received/approved... now they put gold stories first and everything else goes to the back pages or mixed in with the stories that have been up for days. maybe they should put gold ones on one side or something. since they are usually mostly in-jokes/normal stuff.

    I see where you are coming from, the stories do get jumbled. I would prefer to see them in order of moderation, not submission. I miss a lot of stories because of that. But I don't think the stories posted by Gold users are purely inside jokes. Personally, I've never written a story for that purpose. Sometimes, users get carried away with comments, but the stories themselves don't seem to be for gold eyes only. If they are, I completely missed it.

    And being noticed on this site isn't always a good thing.

    If you give much (in this case $$$) you get much. But you can't expect much when you've not given much of anything.

    I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but the truth is rarely convenient or easy.

    I'm not sure how they order it on the homepage, but I usually see that posts that were moderated after posts that were currently on the homepage (because they were Gold and got moderated quicker), end up getting placed below ones that have been there longer, which I've assumed was because they were actually created before the gold posts. Yikes, that was a mouthful! I'm not sure if I'm wording that right, but I basically get the impression that on the homepage, it's order of "newness" is based on when it was created, not moderated. And since Gold members mean their posts are moderated first, it jumbles the whole thing up.

    *If* that is the case, then I'd rather the "Newest Posts" would measure "newness" based on the order they were moderated, not created. Therefore, the older posts won't get lost behind all the Gold ones. I'm not too sure, though. My mind is getting a bit jumbled up at the moment.

    Anyway! I don't think they go completely unnoticed, although I do see where you're coming from. And I don't think that most of the Gold posts are "in jokes". I think some of the Goldies make very good posts. Either way, IIN is a business and Gold is basically a means of supporting it. Despite any problems that come with it, if it helps the site out, then I guess we should just be happy with that. Remember you're getting a free service here, it's not like they owe you anything.:)

      I'm open to changing the ordering on the HP to be based on when it was moderated, not when it was posted. Going to sleep on it first and see if it makes sense...

          You should really consider ditching the whole membership thing and just have ads on the site to pay for the up keep of the site. A completely free site with ads would attract more users, which in turn would attract more advertisers, which in turn would make you more money no?

    No this is not the case. The case is depending on your story and subject the more popular the story will be. Not that gold people are more special just get moderated more quickly. You also can get gold as a gift so what is the issue?

      Wow real mature thing to say.

      If they didnt want free members on this site than they would have it as a paid members only site. However, they would get barely any traffic on here if that was the case. This site should really look into having more advertising on it to pay for the costs related to running the site. I mean no one really wants to see ads and pop-ups but it sure beats making the users pay for extra perks when you could make it an equal playing field for everyone and make more money in advertising than you would by having people pay.

          actually by "they" I think he/she meant the Website's publisher- If they can't afford to keep the site up by their own means then they shouldn't have a website, rather than asking others for pay. Which I don't think is the case, they are probably just looking to profit. No problem with that, it just sort of creates a gap in the user base I think. (sorry for late reply)
