People think you are guilty because you are upset you were accused.

I hate when someone says something about you that isn't true, and then if you get upset they will say something like "well if it isn't true, why are you getting so upset?" as if that somehow proves it really is true. Um, I am getting upset because you are saying terrible lies about me right to my face! Also, if you don't get upset it goes the other way and they say, "You don't seem too upset or surprised about being accused." So if you get angry about it, that proves you did it, and if you don't, that also proves you did it, you can't win.

All that is really happening is the accuser believes it no matter what you say, and is just justifying their beliefs to themselves. But in reality, they have proved nothing.

If people believe your guilty then they'll tailor their argument to fit their belief. Maybe they're jealous of you?

  • I have noticed this. I tend to become angry when falsely accused because its bullshit that I was blamed for something I didnt do. Generally I try not to lie at all though because telling the truth earns a better reputation.

Liars almost never get upset when confronted, and they'll usually repeat some part of the accusation back to you. If someone jumps instantly to outrage, fury, and incoherent blithering desperation on being accused, they're most likely telling the truth.

Accuser: You stole it, didn't you?!
Bad Liar: Pfft... I don't know what you're talking about. I did not steal that box. *nervous giggle*
Accuser: Then how did you know I was referring to a stolen box?

Accuser: You killed him, didn't you?!
Wrongfully Accused: What!? No!! How could you even THINK something like that? Get OUT of my house!! *slams door*

What I find especially irritating is when someone is knowing lying and disparaging someone else, and you can't do anything about it.
You don't want others to believe the lie, but you have no way to disprove it.

I get completely the opposite, I'm so blasé about everything that people only usually tend to believe me once I get irate over being accused

    • Yea I said in my post it works the other way too. If you act like you don't care, then they say that is proof you are guilty too.
