People make fun of my mental condition

I have anxiety problems and tend to move my fingers in octopus-like movements or other repetitive gestures. I try to hide my hands under tables or in my pockets when I can.

Still, people make fun of me thinking I can stop if I really wanted to. I get called finger-related nicknames constantly.

I wear stiff leather gloves in public but I can't wear them at work or when I do something that requires dexterity.

Is this a normal condition? I see other people who tap their fingers or twirl a pen around so I don't know if slow, octopus-like movements fall into that category.

Buy a small fidget spinner. I'm nearly constantly twiddling pens, screwdrivers, flash drives & messing around with my watch bracelet. Try chewing gum to see if that helps, as something else to focus on.

Twiddling your fingers can hardly be construed as a mental illness, octopus-esque or not.

Those people are dick heads, try to ignore them, and concentrate on what you're doing. If need to move your hands, do it and enjoy it.

  • Normal. Don't take it seriously when people call you names

Try to find something else that calms you, something that's not too noticeable. But just know this, people will pick at you regardless (especially in school)... it's only because you do things differently than them(pitiful excuse, but it's true).
