People look at me differently now..

I've changed. I'm still me but I've changed. There is little room for negativity in my life anymore and I'm learning to be more helpful, and also to be helped. My problems are nothing like that used to be. I can handle them. Even the ones I feel like I can't. I'm far from perfect, but I stand so much taller today.

Is this what people see now? Every once in a while I chat with a stranger and her eyes glow. She's captivated by something, like I'm an angel or something. I'm not. There are people out there who are far better at doing good. The looks make me uncomfortable, but not like they would have a year ago. It's as if they have something important they want to tell me or discuss, but they don't because maybe that would be weird. Or maybe there's something they want me to say. It's only happened a handful of times, but to be seen in this light, whatever light it is, is worth more than a thousand superficial glances.

These days, I put less effort into my looks and more into my general well-being. I rarely bother with makeup anymore and I no longer dye my hair. I look in the mirror less, yet I feel prettier. Though I still have a day, here and there, in which I wish I hadn't looked in the mirror. For this reason, I feel like it's something within me they see. Throughout all my eyeliner, never have I captured such a sublime glare. C'est normale?

It's not normal. Although it's a good not normal. Most people are content to spend their lives trying to stay the same or pretend that they "haven't changed". Being aware and feeling okay about it is not "normal". You don't want to be normal in this respect and revisiting is not the same a regressing.
Press forward, have fun and be safe.

Have you done anything to improve yourself in the last year?

    • Yes, many things. I've held down a full time job for almost a year, quit drugs and distanced myself from toxic relationships : )

I still have much more to improve on, but being able to accomplish those things makes me feel so much more capable.

    • So what do you think is really going on? I've always had trouble looking people in the eyes but now that I can this is what I see. Not everyone, just a couple people.
