Too many people are focused on trying to find their ideal perfect partners and not focused enough on improving themselves. Most guys, regardless of their own appearance and qualities, will always subconsciously be attracted to society's perception of the "hot girl", and vice versa. Although it may be true to some extent that "opposites attract", two people with completely different interests will have a hard time getting along and forming a close bond.
