People don't care unless it effects themselves

I notice a lot lately how selfish people are. I'm not say everybody because I'm sure they are a few good people in this world, but many of us today could care less about our fellow man if it has nothing to do with us.
If there was a rule people would usually follow it unless it effect them in a negative way. Like for an example the movie Logan's Run, Logan was a Sandman and was killing people that turned age of 30, But he when turned 30 it was total different and he knew he didn't want to die just like his victims. What I'm getting at is people do not care unless it happens to them.

I know what you're saying, and I hate selfish people like that. Personally, I care about everybody, and pray for the world almost nightly. I'm just a caring person.

Normal to feel that way. The world is packed with self-centered people.

And honestly, I feel like the only way for people to really find out whether a person is self centered or not, is in crazy situations where someone's gotta be a hero. Like, would you jump infront a bus to save someones life? Then again, even in situations like those, some people just do it(save the person) for the rewards after. Sick people. But hey, I always wonder the same thing about myself..., would I be willing to risk my life for someone else? Someone I loved? And not just for the fame or rewards after, but because I truly cared?

  • This isn't even a question, it's just a statement everyone knows already. We are all selfish, some more than others but in the end, we all have something we're selfish about.

Completely agree with you. People need to stop depressing themselves.

Is there truly such a thing as a selfless act?

its just the way most humans are were like animals its for survival and i bealive survival is most important so its best staying away from things when they dont have anything to do with you as it could put you in danger its natural instinct but not everyone has it as some people have an instinct to help people and fight or go towards dangerous thing where some have an instinct to run ....PS:no one has to agree just my personal view point

I agree most people only care when it affects them. You can say hello to a stranger and they ignore you; but as soon as they need something they want to be nice. I have learned not to expect nothing from no one but myself.

Look at any species alive we co-evolved with: it's eat or be eaten and reproduce to pass on the absurdity. There's no reason to think we're different from other animals.

Some people do things that are completely against their best interests. The rest of the world just shrugs, though, rather than learns.

How enlightening? What I mean is that everyone feels this way, nobody wants to confront it, and there is no way to help it. It's life.
