People being obsessed about violence in videogames?

alright I guess this is quite common.
When I was small my parents always complained about gory and violent videogaems I played.
They said it will scar and impact on my future behaviour and mentality, sanity blah blah blah etc.
They always said 'one boy was playing too much videogames , he confused real world with videogames and he went out on the street shooting people with a pistol'
Literary , What-the-fuck.
I play videogames like 8 hours a day but I dont seem to forget about real life, magically get a pistol and play gta in real life.
Now that i am 10 years older i see no difference in my behaviour.
When my mom said 'Omg dys is so gory n violent turn it off nao' i always thought to myself 'I dont give a shit about violence and blood. if she is nearly 40 years old and she is offended by those things then shes the one not being mentally prepared for life.

So guys is it normal to care about violence blood and gore in videogames that much? After all, its not even real.

I've heard that argument before, that video games are "murder trainers." I think that's a load of crap. If that was the case, wouldn't people be doing other activities that they do in video games?

Playing violent bloody games does make you think of extreme violence but it doesn't make someone kill someone in real life unless they are insane to begin with when i play violent video games i do think of violence of the game but not like im gonna kill someone the thing is some people do take video game violence seriously but there is always that asshole who stereotypes it like everyone will do it which is total bullshit.

I play Grand Theft Auto and I don't have the urge to stab someone and steal their car, I play Resident Evil but I don't get out a rocket launcher and fire it at people who I assume are zombies. I play EA Skate but I never feel I want get my skateboard and attempt to ride it down a dam. If video games influence anyone, it is the fault of the person's fucked-up mind, not the game.

It is the parent's responsibility to determine whether or not the kid has sence enough to differentiate between a video game and reality. If you are influenced by the game and want to start doing the stuff that's in it, then you shouldn't be playing it. It really depends on the maturity level of the gamer, but in your case, it sounds just fine. Some gamers give all of us a bad name. It's one of those "One bad apple ruins the basket" type of things...

I 100% totally agree with you. There is no proof that violent video games makes people violent. That's something Michael Atkinson made up to frighten people.

Unfortunately, my eight-year-old brother is just like that. He's affected, really affected. He used to be a nice boy like any other normal student, but now... quite a bully. Wish I could change him but nothing will, I guess.

yeah thats what parents think its not really true true unless you dont have a good mentality level and you assume its real and go do it but that doesnt usually happen it only works for the insane so dont worry check out all the violence you want you will be fine

My dad says that everything we play, watch and listen to affects the way we think, even if only on a subconscious level. That being said, we need to be careful about what we input into our brains so that it doesn't change the way we are too much.

They do actually after peoples behaviours. There are cases and studies which have shown them to desensitise violence, theft and gun use. How ever this can be consisted to the similar cases of toy guns, and sometimes paintball and airsoft guns.
Having access to these weapons (whether tangible or not) does affect people's responses to things. Shoots often happen because the person isn't used to the gun doing much damage (mummy will respawn in 5 min, yeah?).
On the average: no, you probably won't be affected much (however your gaming habits and style always wear off on your response to threat, confrontation and argument) but do recognise that some people are influenced by them. I don't think anyone can say handing a child a toy gun doesn't spur thoughts; it only ever depends on whether he acts on them.
