Parents take musical instruments?

I was just wondering if it is normal for my parents to take away musical equipment. I was wondering this because I value music a lot and it seems cruel to take away one's personal hobbies. I could understand taking away video games since they're not really productive, but musical instruments like a guitar and drums where it is productive and you learn new things? Isn't that going too far? Also they took them away since they're afraid it'll interfere with school work but my average is above 85.

People can do some stupid things, whether it's because they're just being horrible or because they "think it's for the best."

For me, that would be too much, so I really sympathise :( I don't know how I would survive without my music. Don't accept it - try to fight back against this decision! How have they responded to your reasoning? As you've said here, you're actually doing quite well at school.

Maybe you could mention something on how playing music is extremely beneficial to developing your brain because it uses almost the entire brain (this is science my friend.)

    • I agree with her.

On the other hand, could they have became annoyed hearing it or you "practicing?" I will love my children when I have them and will support everything they try as long as it is for a better cause, this does not mean Ihave to like my son banging on drums horribly after a hard days work.

Just practice less when they are around and if nothing else, talk to them about it. What may help is write a letter and give it to several of your instructers for them to sign stating that you are doing well. Do this for your parents and I am sure you will get them back after you have a sitdown talk with them.

Taking your musical instruments away? When I was in high school, my parents made me practice at least an hour a day. I ended up becoming the best in my region. AND, being part of an extracurricular like that helps you to maintain an interest in school in general and to develop interests like that is very good for your soul. What effect do they hope to have by doing this?

There is probaby a good reason (if only to them) why they took this away. Are u ignoring the family too much? Not doing chores? Not respectful? Meet your parents in the middle and talk about it. They may reconsider.

If Iwere you I'd find out where they took and stored the gear then I would get the gear get in the car and move as far away from them as possible and if you can steal money from them so you can live until you find a source of income even better

hint go to an entierly diferent state or if you prefer and have the balls and conviction... move to Europe
