Paranoid about my paranoia meds?

Long story short, I saw a mental health professional and she prescribed meds for my "obsessive thoughts" and "paranoia". I reluctantly took the meds and I noticed I wasn't thinking the same way and I got paranoid that I wasn't being paranoid (vigilant) enough. I told her this and she wanted to increase the dosage! No way Jose, total mind control! I didn't say anything to her but I stopped taking the medication because I didn't like not feeling in full control of my thoughts. Then I began thinking she had other motives for wanting me to take this medication. I read about the things this drug is used for and I think she may have just said it was to treat the paranoia but in reality she thinks I'm a schizophrenic nutjob but just didn't want to tell me and was trying to get me to take the meds under some other premise.

Can a medical professional trick you into taking drugs?? Saying it's for one thing but really it may be for more (or other) reasons??

It's very unlikely she'd be being deceitful. However, a lot of doctors are 'pill pushers' and I think over-prescribe. You could see how you go for a bit and then decide? But don't take a higher dosage if you really don't want to. Can I suggest talking about it as well? Even just to someone you trust and someone who will listen. Work out WHY these paranoid thoughts occur. Personally, I think medicine often just masks the problems without really sorting them out at their root. It's not an ideal long term solution in most cases.

Dude....Pick up the book "Full Catastrophe Living" - By Jon Kabat-Zinn. You should start doing some mindfulness meditation to help you control your thoughts...(or let go of control of your thoughts and just understand that they are just thoughts). I have anxiety and this helped me TONS! To the point where I no longer have anxiety for years.

Also, perhaps you need a second opinion. Find another shrink. Calmy discuss your options with them. Let them know your concerns...Let them know you'd like to try getting help without meds if possible. That may require lots of therapy. And discuss with them meditation and the different types. Also bring up the Jon Kabat-Zinn book. You need to find a therapist that really listens to you.

Something that frustrates me with therapists is that they don't urge people to try to get help first without medication. I'm not saying medication is never necessary but it shouldn't be the first option due to side effects, dependency, requirements of taking it on time every day. There leaves a human error margin. Not to mention when we bring in certain chemicals into our body our bodies change the way they make chemicals to an extent. Or at least they can depending on what the chemical is.

Go see multiple people, don't tell them you are seeing each other, see at least one independent, i.e. one from a support group. From second hand experience, the ones in it for the money or government ones will lie, fake documents, falsify evidence and twist every single word you say to them. It is a good idea to audio record every interaction with them (check local laws).
